Do you combine your Stampin’ Up!® stamp sets? I’m always looking for perfect pairings, as I showed you last week by using Wildflower Designs with Elements of Text. (linkg - https://allthingsstampy.blogspot.com/2025/03/three-amazing-card-ideas-for-wildflower.html)
This time I want to show you how I combined two more Stampin’ Up!® stamp sets; Musical Jamboree (163616) and Under The Moon (163531), two fabulous sets which are both retiring very soon.
I think these sets go together beautifully as that wolf dog is clearly howling at the moon.
The main reason I bought Musical Jamboree though is, of course, because of the striking resemblance to my own rescue dog, Skye. As a very very mixed breed dog, I sometimes think she’s not far from a wolf herself.
For this birthday card for a friend, who is also a friend of Skye’s, I wanted to make the dog look as close to Skye as possible. Not easy with a sable dog and my colouring limitations. But I did my best!
But first, let’s go back a few steps to the masking technique.
The dog mask is made of sticky note paper. I bought some of this on a roll which is sticky all over and was just wide enough. I stamped the dog onto the paper, cut it out using my Stampin’ Snips then carefully (not that carefully – don’t look too closely!) laid it on top of the first stamped dog image.
Now the blending could begin. Here’s a shocking confession: I don’t wash my blending brushes. I nearly always use similar colours – blues, greens or pinks – so keep one in each colour. For this project I used my nicely stained blue brush and Blueberry Bushel ink.
The trick here is to keep going. So many people give up too soon, before reaching colour saturation. You just have to believe in the process and keep adding more and more ink.
Before removing the masks I added my stars. My first layer of stars was created simply by flicking water at the background. This soaks up some ink and leaves pale dots.
For a second layer of more intense stars, I lightly diluted some Stampin’ Up!® Craft White ink to loosen it, then flicked this across the project with a paintbrush. This does take some time to dry so be patient!
Once this was dry, I removed the masks and began colouring the dog. I used Stampin’ Up!® Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers in lots of colours. I probably used all of the Skin Tones, and even some retired Pale Papaya to try to get Skye’s lovely gingery fawn chest. I had a second stamped image to the side to practise on before committing to the project. I wouldn’t normally do this but I had already invested quite a bit of time into creating the night sky and didn’t want to mess up.
The foreground is created using Storybook Garden Patch dies (164666). I die-cut the same shape twice from a scrap of Perennial Lavender Designer Series Paper (162593) as I wanted the look of a texture then added some Mossy Meadow ink using my green blending brush.
I mounted the image on some Copper Clay cardstock, then finished off with some Copper Clay ribbon tied up with Linen Thread, on a Thick Basic White card base.
I hope you think this is as perfect a pairing as I do and are tempted to add Musical Jamboree and Under the Moon to your craft stash. Remember, both of these fabulous Stampin’ Up!® stamp sets are retiring soon so don’t delay!
