Easy background tip for Storybook Garden Patch card

Storybook Garden Patch Stampin Up easy tip

Storybook Garden Patch is a Stampin’ Up!® stamp set/bundle (164667) which has been on my mind a lot recently as I have a class using these products this weekend.

So it was timely that the fabulous Instagram account Stampin’ Through the Catalog has been focusing on the Storybook Garden Patch stamp set (164663) lately.

I was flattered that they shared two of my previous designs in their Instagram Stories, and was inspired by one of their newest projects to make this card.

I loved this project by Melody and decided to make it my own, mainly because I didn’t have those same Stampin’ Up!® dies, and because I wanted to simplify it to fit in with the other class projects I have planned.

I began by making a background in the same way that Melody did, using a marker on some Basic White cardstock. I used Night of Navy Light (154891) for mine.

You can use any type of marker but the brush end works best. If you’re particularly artistic you could add more lines with a fine tip in a darker colour but I tried this and didn’t like my results.

Next I stamped my strawberries using the Storybook Garden Patch stamp set in Memento Tuxedo Black (132708), which is water-based, so perfect for using with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers.

I have hung on to my old Stamparatus and use it a lot for projects like this as I can die-cut first, then slot the pieces into a template for easy stamping every time.

The Storybook Garden Patch strawberries are coloured using Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers in Poppy Parade Light and Dark (154958), and Granny Apple Green Light and Dark (154885).

I stamped Happy Birthday using Simply Said (163756), then cut it out using my Stampin’ Trimmer and matted onto some Poppy Parade cardstock. The fact that it’s exactly the same width as the layer beneath was an accident but, although it wasn’t what I wanted, I quite like the effect so am keeping it.

The Basic White layer is embossed using the Stampin’ Up!® Timber 3D embossing folder (156406) which is my go-to embossing folder for subtle textures.

This, too, is layered onto Stampin’ Up!® Poppy Parade cardstock and the whole thing is adhered to a Balmy Blue card base.
