New Stampin’ Up!® stamp set Elements of Text meets old lavender favourites

Elements of Text Paper Butterfly Lavender Stampin Up

Sometimes we can get so hung up on using the latest Stampin’ Up!® products that we forget about all the gorgeous ones lurking away in our stash.

So for this week’s blog, I want to share some butterfly-themed projects we made at a class on Friday.

Hello Life project hack

Happy Easter! I hope you have a pleasant and restful day.

This project is something completely different for me. I made it at our homemade crafty retreat last weekend.

In the later planning stages, I mentioned that I fancied having a go at the Hello Life Project Kit on page 6 of the Spring/Summer catalogue, but unfortunately we’d left it a bit late to order in time for our event.

But we are crafty ladies, remember, and will always find a way. So, using the powers of next-day delivery, we ordered some black cooling racks and decided to see what we could come up with.

After removing the legs with pliers, and with only the photo in the catalogue to go on, we set to work.

It turns out that the Project Life Accessory Packs are PERFECT for a Hello Life project hack. (It also turns out that I NEED a lot more Project Life Accessory Packs - they are exactly what lots of us are looking for… a wide variety of embellishments in small numbers. And you can use them for lots of projects, not just scrapbooking!)

With the contents of several craft rooms on hand (lots of us had over-packed!), we had not problem creating our own take on this fabulous project. The only thing I couldn’t lay my hands on were window sheets for the shaker element, but we compromised with a cello bag.

My top tip for creating this project comes from my friend, Ann. After noticing how tricky it was to peg your elements onto the frame, she decided that glueing them on was the way forward, using the pegs merely for show. However, my glue dots weren’t co-operating, which is why my striped heart shaker is at such a rakish angle! Sticky Strip would be better. You could still peel them off later to change the display.

My second tip would be to ditch the pompoms, as they are very time-consuming to create!

The frame with the white background is for a photo, which can be slid in the side. The banners are made from a combination of cardstock and Project Life cards.

Butterfly Mother’s Day card

A week ago, it was Mother’s Day here (or Mothering Sunday, if I don’t want to get told off!) My Mum loves butterflies, so I made her this card. I don’t have a Mother ing Sunday stamp but I thought this sentiment from Sheltering Tree was perfect.

My Mum is quite the phenomenon. A couple of years ago, at the age of 79, she completed a sky dive, because she didn’t want her grandchildren to remember as an old lady who knits (!) and lately she’s become something of a radio star. If you fancy a laugh, have a listen to this clip of her reviewing a certain popular film with her friend... I think we can safely say she won’t be remembered for her knitting!

Little Thank You boxes with Kinda Eclectic butterfly

I have just one more thing to show you from my All-Day Craftathon, and that’s this little box. Everybody received one of these at their table, to thank them for giving up a day to spend with me. Inside is one of my favourite things: a Lindor chocolate (the red ones), so it was quite a wrench to give them away! Fortunately there was a spare which I gave to myself to thank me for making all these little boxes - as you probably know, I don’t like making projects in bulk!

It’s a very simple box, pinched at the top and stapled to keep it closed. The tiny peg wouldn’t be strong enough, that’s just for show!

All-Day Craftathon Projects: Butterfly envelope pouch and note cards

This was the final project of my All-Day Craftathon, although I do still have one more to show you… just waiting for it to get properly light so I can take a photo!

I wanted to end on something a little simpler, as I knew people would be getting tired by this point, so this is a simple pouch with three very simple cards inside. It uses a lot of supplies, though, as you can see!

At the beginning of the day, when making this project, I’d already tipped off the ladies to die-cut all three sizes of butterfly in PerfectPlum when they were making this project, so everyone had a little head start. And several people had brought their own envelope punch board, which help things along, too.

The DSP panel is sponged using Soft Sky and Wild Wasabi inks, for a gentle summery effect.

To make a pouch or box using the envelope punch board, all you have to do is add a side seam, which you do by adding another crease. I think I explain it better in this post. We were restricted by the size of the cardstock for this one, so added a 3/4” side. The little notecards you can buy from SU are a size called “Gladstone” so we followed this line on the imperial measurements on the board. A demonstrator called Jan Burnett has done an excellent video on the topic, too - her project is a different size but the principle is the same.

Inside we created three little cards in different colours. I don’t have the Butterfly Basics stamp set which co-ordinates with the dies, so to make the little butterflies more interesting, we embossed them using the Polka Dots embossing folder, then gently swiped them with the Silver Encore ink pad.
