Sometimes we can get so hung up on using the latest Stampin’ Up!® products that we forget about all the gorgeous ones lurking away in our stash.
So for this week’s blog, I want to share some butterfly-themed projects we made at a class on Friday.
I combined Paper Butterfly Accents (162612) with stunning Perennial Lavender Designer Series Paper (162593), both of which have carried over from a Mini catalogue into the current Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalogue.
Then to give the projects a hint of something new, I used the Elements of Text stamp set (164774), which is one of the latest Stampin’ Up!® Online Exclusives.
A little late in the year I know – as one of the class ladies (my mother) was keen to point out, this calendar is based on a simple easel card.
I used a Highland Heather card base, cut lengthwise then scored at the quarter and halfway points. I say that instead of measurements, as then you can adapt the design to any size of cardstock.
The main panel is decorated with beautiful Perennial Lavender Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up!® and a gorgeous Paper Butterfly Accent. These look stunning as they are but can easily be coloured using Sponge Daubers and ink. Naturally, we stuck to purples, using Highland Heather and Gorgeous Grape.
The butterfly is resting on a panel, die-cut using Wildflower Designs Dies (163333). On top of this I stamped some grungey spatters using the new Elements of Text stamp set in Basic Beige.
The words are stamped using an old stamp set called Making Plans, which I thought was perfect for this project.
The easel element is held up using a stack of sticky notes. These and the calendar tabs were both purchased from eBay.
The second project using Paper Butterfly Accents with stunning Perennial Lavender Designer Series Paper is a pretty birthday card.
For this butterfly project, I began with a Fresh Freesia card base which I stamped using the Elements of Text stamp set in Fresh Freesia ink.
The main layer is a die-cut shape created with Countryside Corners Dies (161471). I stamped the top right quarter using Elements of Text stamp set in Basic Beige to add interest.
The bottom section is covered in a strip of Perennial Lavender Designer Series Paper. Because this die-cut shape has straight edges, I simply covered the bottom using a rectangle then cut off the corners using scissors.
To cover the join, I used a strip of polka dot ribbon which at the time of making was on the Stampin’ Up!® Clearance Rack but has since sold out.
The big butterfly is once again coloured using a Stampin’ Up!® Sponge Dauber and some ink in Highland Heather and Gorgeous Grape, and attached using Glue Dots.
Finally, the greeting is stamped using Simply Said (163756), a must-have Stampin’ Up!® stamp set in my opinion. I cut this out close, then separated the two words to provide two decks of greetings for balance.
I hope you like my butterfly projects. Remember, there are lots of gems like this hiding in the current Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalogue, so don’t miss them. And there are even more gorgeous products, like the Elements of Text stamp set, in the Online Exclusives section of the website, so be sure to check them out too.
