Snow Front ornament

Snow front is my stamp set of choice for my November classes so I’ve been exploring different projects and techniques with this versatile set.

It has lots of fun elements which appeal to me – not least... TREES! I love trees and am always drawn to tree stamp sets in the catalogue. With the Autumn/Winter catalogue, this means I’m spoilt for choice and inevitably cave in and buy all of my favourites. This one is gorgeous - the watercoloured look of the stamps means it’s really difficult to go wrong and you can create some fun, festive scenes in minutes.

But why stop at cardstock? I stamped on this MDF circle to make a Christmas ornament to go on my tree. Or you could use it as an extra special gift tag, the choice is yours. We’ll be making this at my Crafty Friday class this morning and I’m confident they’ll love it.

After stamping my images, I used a fine paintbrush to add some Frost White Shimmer paint to the cottage roof and the trees, then spritzed the whole lot with a mix of Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint and alcohol to give it a fantastic shimmer. Not sure this comes across in the photo but it is extremely shimmery!

PS: I’ve just noticed one of my rhinestones has fallen off! I think Glue Dots would help to keep them on the MDF surface. 

The MDF circle was a little dark so I swiped it with Whisper White craft ink before I began stamping. Bonus tip: stamp your scene onto a circle of scrap cardstock or paper before you commit to the project! 

By the Bay Week: Masked and sponged image

I was having so much fun sponging for Monday’s project that I simply couldn’t stop. For this project, inspired by the sample in the Sale-a-Bration brochure, I coloured the image using Watercolour Pencils and blender pens, then masked off the cottage and masked a frame using sticky notes, before sponging with a mix of Pacific Point and Nigh of Navy, leaving a lighter patch to give the impression of the moon.

Leaving the masks in place, I spattered the image using Frost White Shimmer Paint, which is one of my favourite products and, I’m happy to say, currently still available as a carryover item from the Autumn/Winter catalogue.

By the Bay Week! Sponged seaside cottage

It’s By the Bay week here at All Things Stampy – a time to celebrate this gorgeous but oft-overlooked Sale-a-Bration stamp set with a new project every weekday. Some of you may have been put off by the thought of colouring that highly detailed main image, but here is a technique which makes it simple...

Thanks to this wonderful tutorial from Mitosu Crafts, I created this sponged image. I used slightly different colours, as I prefer the vivid Pacific Point to the dark and moody Night of Navy, and I added a red front door to make it pop.

I was showcasing the fabulous Stitched Rectangle Framelits, which can be used to make many more sizes of rectangle than the ones included in the pack. Here I used a die wider than the pouch to create the stitched effect just along the top and bottom of the image.

Inside the pouch is a pack of Old Olive Baker's Twine for the host – it’s one of her favourite colours.

I also showed this version, made into a card. This one uses the darker Night of Navy ink around the edges and, instead of creating the stars with a chalk marker, I spattered Frost White Shimmer Paint across the image and the whole card for a brighter, shinier effect. I actually prefer this but didn’t demo it as it takes quite a while to dry.

Glowing Christmas house

I love this technique and will be returning to it again and again, I'm sure. It particularly lends itself to Christmas cards like this one, which we made at Crafty Friday last week.

You begin by taking a piece of Pacific Point cardstock and wiping it with the embossing buddy before embossing your image using white embossing powder.

Next simply sponge around the image – don’t get too close – using Pacific Point ink. Then build up some darker colour around the edges; I used Night of Navy at the bottom of this one and Blueberry Bushel at the top.

This bit is important: swipe it all over the whole lot using the embossing buddy again before stamping and embossing the greeting. If you don’t, the powder will stick to the whole sheet! (Ask me how I know).

Colour the front door with a Stampin’ Blend (it needs to be an alcohol markers as a water-based marker will just pool on top of the embossed image).

Finally, spatter the whole lot with some Frost White Shimmer paint, by tapping the side of a paintbrush.

Snow is glistening, snowflakes are glowing

Clean and Simple these cards ain’t! But sometimes it’s fun to get stuck in and enjoy some fun techniques. 

I made these projects using the new, limited edition Snow is Glistening stamp set, which is available for November only, and even then only while supplies last.

For all of these cards, I used Pacific Point cardstock and stamped and embossed in white; I find white ink AND white embossing powder gives you a stronger image.
I sponged around the image in Pacific Point ink, then around the edges of the cardstock in Blueberry Bushel to provide more depth. This seems to make the images ‘glow’. 

For the starry/snowy event, I flicked some Frost White Shimmer Paint over the cardstock; I love it! I used the same paint, mixed with this Real Red ink, to create the delicate red dots, but here I must issue a word of caution, as over a week later, they still haven’t fully dried and I need to get round to sealing them somehow.
