Make scrapbooking easy with card kits - yes, card kits!

Since Stampin’ Up!® took over the troubled Close to My Heart scrapbooking business earlier this year, I have started scrapbooking again after a break of many years.

Happily, the takeover and launch of a new range of exciting Stampin’ Up!® scrapbooking products coincided with three new babies in the family, giving me LOTS of photos to scrapbook.

Having said that, it's a myth that you need children and small babies to justify scrapbooking; you can scrapbook your holidays, days out, family occasions, and even your day-to-day life.

But I have pledged to create two albums by Christmas, so am sticking with the baby and toddler theme.

How to turn around lots of pages quickly? Kits!

And not just Stampin’ Up!®’s fabulous new scrapbooking kits. I have a few part-finished Stampin’ Up!® card kits so decided to see if I could use these to make quick and easy scrapbook pages.

Short answer: yes you can!

Longer answer.. take a look at these pages I made using the Boho Beach Card Kit and Blossom Wishes Card Kit, with the addition of some of the fabulous new Stampin’ Up!® Two-Tone 12x12" cardstock, a little extra Lost Lagoon cardstock, and some scraps I had lying around.

Let’s start with Blossom Wishes

This is a relatively old card kit as it features the Stampin’ Up!® In Colors™ Sweet Sorbet and Orchid Oasis, which retired earlier this year. But no matter that I no longer have these ink pads; there is always a way.

In fact, there is barely any stamping on this 12x12 scrapbooking page. I used the elements needed for two of the cards from the Blossom Wishes Kit, carefully measuring these out so I didn’t compromise any future cardmaking.

I began with a sheet of Two-Tone 12x12 cardstock in Petal Pink from the Autumn to Remember assortment (166499) but you can also get this colour in the Snow Day assortment (166492). It is Stampin’ Up!®’s aim to provide single-colour packs of all our colours eventually, but for now we have various assortments and some single-colour packs of the most popular colours.

The page began with the simple idea of placing four 3x3" squares in the centre of the page, to feature two 3x3" photos. I created three 3¼" mats using the beautiful Orchid Oasis envelopes.

One of the embossed card fronts was cut up to create a 3x3" panel for the top left square, and I used the card back, which is smooth, for stamping my words.

These sentiments come from the Stampin’ Up!® stamp sets Cutest Onesie and Happy Little Things, which is an Online Exclusive. Because the word “LOVE” is such a delicate outline stamp, I used Poppy Parade ink and am confident nobody will notice that it’s not the exact same shade as the Sweet Sorbet mat further across the page.

The sentiments are mounted on some more pieces of Orchid Oasis envelope and popped up on the embossed square.

The texture-effect layers behind the top left and bottom right squares are also cut from the kit elements.

This is the original shape of the Sweet Sorbet feature, which I cut in half and arranged to create the effect of a mat.

You can see the Wild Wheat layer has circles in. These would also make a great scrapbook feature as you could put photos behind. But I cut up the layer as before to create the mat feature behind the square.

To position the squares, I used my Stampin’ Up!® grid paper and a ruler, to keep them centred.

The journalling square is created from an old Memories & More Card. I have loads of these left over so have isolated all the journalling cards to use on my pages.

Then it was simply a case of adding the apples and pears from the Blossom Wishes Kit to finish off.

The Stampin’ Up!® cardmaking kit Boho Beach has lots of fun elements and a stamp set to give you even more versatility.

I began with some Two-Tone 12x12" cardstock in Pool Party (166691), which is one of the single-colour packs available. I am finding I use the pale side more frequently than the “true” colour side, but this will depend on your project.

The Boho Beach kit features beautiful card bases which are patterned front and back, giving you lots of designs to play with. Once again, I sacrificed the supplies to make two cards – one of each – so I could still use the rest of the kit.

I initially planned to use the card bases as photo mats but in the end I couldn’t bear to hide so much of the lovely design, so decided to offset them behind my photos instead.

I used the stamp set from the Boho Beach kit to decorate the page before sticking things down. This can be tricky, so here’s a tip:

When creating any collage-style project – scrapbook page or card – arrange all your elements then take a quick snap on your phone. When you start removing the elements to add adhesive, if you are like me you will forget where to put them, so having that photo to refer to is invaluable.

I used the various stamps from the Boho Beach kit – and no other stamps at all – to stamp sand and foliage on the background, so they would peep out from behind the elements.

All the die-cut shapes – leaves, chair, parasol and labels – come from the Boho Beach Kit, and the small grid for journalling is from another old Memories & More Card. Like the other page, this has been left blank for the parents to complete with their own memories.

The photos are matted on to some
Stampin’ Up!® Lost Lagoon cardstock to help them stand out. I could have used the card fronts or envelopes if I was sticking rigidly to the kit. But I didn’t think of that until just now.

And that’s it. I don’t think I have ever scrapbooked two pages so quickly!

This is definitely a technique I will use again as we have some fabulous Stampin’ Up!® cardmaking kits which can easily be converted. Best of all, because you get so much in each kit, you can make cards AND scrapbook pages.

Are you interested in scrapbooking classes? I plan to start up some scrapbooking sessions in 2025 so if this sounds like fun, let me know! If I get enough interest, they will be a mix of in-person in Derbyshire and online for anyone in the UK.
