Rustic new home card using Stampin Up!’s Humble Home bundle

The Humble Home stamp set and coordinating punch from Stampin’ Up!® are so versatile. 

I’ve already used them for three very different cards for Christmas and thank yous. 

It goes without saying that this useful Stampin’ Up!® bundle will also work for birthdays.

For today’s blog post, I have used the Humble Home bundle for a new home card, which is perhaps the most obvious choice.

This useful stamp set featured two different house images, which can be used separately or together. You can stamp the roof separately if you wish, or colour in the Christmassy gingerbread house-style image. There are windows and a door, a big heart, a tiny wreath, and a great array of sentiments for many occasions. 

 

My new home card is for a friend and former Stampin’ Up!® demonstrator who has finally moved house. I am not particularly quick off the mark as she has been in a couple of weeks but I confess I have been struggling with my mojo lately. 

 

In fact, even when I finished the card, I was still undecided, so have two versions to show you here. At the end of the post, I will tell you which one I finally settled on!

I began with a simple punched house in white but to add interest, I embossed this using the Timber 3D embossing folder (156406). This is my most-used embossing folder as it's a great way to add subtle texture, particularly to rustic and woodland-themed projects, which many of mine are. 

For the background, I used some Country Woods Designer Series Paper (163393) which I knocked back a little with a blending brush and some Gray Granite ink. I used extra ink around the edges and corners to give it depth, then swiped over the whole lot to darken it slightly and make the house stand out more. 

 

I mounted the house on the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals, then added a fun feature of smoke coming out of the chimney in the form of little white hearts. These are also punched with the fun house punch from the Humble Home bundle.

The Country Woods Designer Series Paper is mounted onto Cherry Cobbler cardstock, and I punched an extra heart from Cherry Cobbler cardstock to attach to the front of the little house.

 

If you want to save cardstock or don’t have any small scraps, you could punch the small heart from the Cherry Cobbler layer. As long as you don’t punch too close to the edge, nobody will ever know there’s a hole in it. 

 

 

I used the Humble Home stamp set to stamp “Welcome” in Gray Granite, and “home” in Cherry Cobbler. This is die-cut using Delicate Forest Dies (162679) from Stampin’ Up!® although any small label die or punch would do the job. 

 

I stamped to the right of the label and scored it just to the left of the greeting, so it would fold around my Cherry Cobbler layer nicely, then popped it up for dimension. 

 

Around the left of the label, I tied a bow from Linen Thread, another of my must-have products. 

 

 

It’s all mounted onto a Basic White card base, but then came my dilemma, which you may have already spotted from the photos. Should I leave it as it is or add one of my favourite Stampin’ Up!® Textural Elements (159966)?

For the photos, I simply poked in one of these cute wooden elements and let gravity do the work, but for while I simply couldn’t decide. 

 

In the end though, while editing the photos, I decided that the card looked a little bare without the addition of the Textural Element, so I secured it in place using Glue Dots. What do you think? Good decision? Or should I have kept it simple?
