Fun Christmas cracker tutorial

Stampin Up cracker tutorial Reindeer Days

Today I have a Christmas gift idea using your Stampin’ Up!® cardstock and Reindeer Days Designer Series Paper. And if it looks familiar then I will remind you that there’s no such thing as a new idea... and certainly not in my head at the moment. We are having building work done and the stress and mess of it all has sapped my mojo.

But what is one of my best tips for a missing mojo? Remake something you’ve made before. In my defence, a quick glance through this blog shows me that it’s been three years since I last made this half cracker gift box for a Stampin’ Up!® Zoom class during the pandemic.

I only decided to make this project again because I saw the perfect box of chocolates in B&M Bargains. I even nipped round to the stationery aisle to measure the width of the box. As it was it’s 4.5cm I decided it was perfect for this 5cm wide box. What I didn’t think about was its height, so I had to adjust the cracker slightly to accommodate the taller box. Read how I did this further down.

The chocolates slide in perfectly before you tie the bow from your chosen Stampin’ Up!® ribbon, then you have an extra compartment at the top where you can add some chocolate balls from Lidl (IF there are any left... must go and get some more).

Any Christmas-themed Stampin’ Up!® Designer Series Paper will do to decorate these fun boxes but I chose Reindeer Days (164166) with its traditional colour scheme.

You get one box out of one sheet of A4 cardstock, and you need just under half a sheet of Reindeer Days Designer Series Paper 12x12 Designer Series Paper to decorate it, so it’s fairly economical.

If you can find these Elizabeth Shaw Mint Flutes, then well done! Because I cleaned out B&M and cannot find any other stockists at the moment. But if you do, and want to make the taller box, here’s how.

I’m not making a whole new tutorial on the off chance that you can find these elusive chocolates, so...

  1. Print out the original tutorial linked above.

  2. Change the bottom measurement from 5cm to 1cm as shown in the amended template below.

  3. Follow all the other measurements.

  4. You’ll end up with a cracker with small flaps instead of a base. BUT if you save the section you’re cutting away from the top, you can trim this down to 4.8cm x 4.8cm and use this as a base instead. This saves you cutting into another piece of cardstock.

  5. Then proceed according to the original instructions.

To decorate the box, simply cut the Reindeer Days Designer Series Paper to fit the sides. That's

  • 4 pieces of DSP: 15.5cm x 4.5cm (NOT 11cm if you're making the taller box)
  • Four pieces of DSP: 3.5cm x 4.5cm
  • Piece of DSP: 4.5cm x 4.5cm (optional, for lid).

Next I raided my very depleted ribbon collection to find coordinating ribbons to tie around the neck.

The label is made using the Labeled with Love punch (163569), which is also available as a set of three dies (163570).
