Winterly Tree Tops Christmas ornament

Winterly Tree Tops Christmas ornament

I love to make my own Stampin’ Up!® Christmas ornaments to hang on the tree, on door knobs, or even use as gift tags. This year’s Christmas decoration has a bird theme, thanks to the gorgeous Winterly Tree Tops bundle of stamps and dies (164066).

For these cute ornaments I began with some MDF circles from my stash. Thankfully they were already drilled as that would have slowed me down enormously.

I covered them with a piece of Country Woods Designer Series Paper (163393) which has some gorgeous wood-grained designs. The two designs I've used here are from the same sheet. Isn’t it always the way? Your two favourites are always back to back.

I couldn’t decide which to use so make one of each.

My first one has a bleached wood design background from Country Woods Designer Series Paper. I covered the front of the MDF circle then used a file to file off the edges for a perfectly flush finish.

The wreath and birds from the Winterly Tree Tops stamp set are stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and coloured in using Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers.

These projects are for a class of beginner crafters so I do the die-cutting for them in advance (they stamp on top using the now-retired Stamparatus). So to minimise the die-cutting for me, I used the Bough Punch (157711) to create more foliage.

On this ornament I used the Bough Punch in Old Olive and Garden Green, and I trimmed down the sprig to remove the largest leaves.

To add a touch of festive sparkle, I used Pearlized Enamel Effects Basics (156310) which come in a pack of three bottles; black, red and white.

For this ornament I used the red to create the shiny berries on the Winterly Tree Tops bird branch and the wreath.

Tip: Squeeze the bottle gently directly onto the project to create the red blobs. But if you have berries which are touching each other, do every other one and allow it to dry slightly before adding the remaining berries. Otherwise, the enamel effects can bleed into one shapeless blob.

To finish off, I used some Natural Tones Linen Thread (164071) in Garden Green to create a hanging thread.

For my second Winterly Tree Tops ornament, I covered the MDF circle with the other side of the same sheet of Country Woods Designer Series Paper to create the effect of dark wood grain.

I followed exactly the same design, using the same stamped and die-cut images from Winterly Tree Tops, and the same Bough Punch.

I wanted to changed it up slightly so this time I punched my leaves from Basic Beige and Basic White cardstock for a more subtle effect. I do regret this, but didn’t have time to switch to green. Plus, I stuck them down really well, with Glue Dots!

To create the effect of mistletoe, I used the white bottle of Pearlized Enamel Effects Basics, which I do think looks lovely. But I also think I overdid it, and should have done some red berries too. What do you think?

This time, in keeping with the more neutral theme, I finished off with some standard Linen Thread to hang the ornament.

At least I have two options to show the ladies at the class. But I think I know which one they will decide to make.
