Do you ever get a creativity block? This happens to us all, even Stampin’ Up!® demonstrators. Perhaps especially Stampin’ Up!® demonstrators because some of feel the need to create new content all the time for our crafty audiences.
I think we all need to let go of the idea that every creation should be brand new and original. After all, there is no point in reinventing the wheel.
This is one of the reasons I decided to remake my vintage Inked & Tiled cards of a few weeks ago, this time changing the colours a little and using my Grassy Grove Stampin’ Up!® stamps.
The first card has a Moody Mauve base stamped on top using ink of the same colour.
The Grassy Grove “scene” is stamped using Crumb Cake for the trees, Shaded Spruce for the foreground foliage and Moody Mauve for the deer.
I used the same card sketch as before, when I made the Inked & Tiled card; the only difference is that the main panel is slightly wider. I left off the Pool Party and added Shaded Spruce instead. And this time, as I had more white space at the top, I stamped Thank You directly onto the white panel.
I still used the Kitchen Roll (kitchen paper?) technique on the white panel, simply by scrunching it up and using it to pick up some ink to dab on the cardstock. This adds some texture and interest without the need for any special equipment.
The second Grassy Grove card uses the same sketch as my other Inked & Tiled card, but this time I swapped the card base for Crumb Cake and added some Moody Mauve around the edges.
The main panel is stamped with Grassy Grove in Blackberry Bliss and Shaded Spruce, with some extra colour added using a Blending Brush and Moody Mauve ink. I even used the little star/flower from Inked & Tiled to add some interest on what is quite a large expanse of white.
I stamped trees randomly on the background using Crumb Cake, stamped off.
A tiny step up on this vintage Grassy Grove project is the addition of dyed Linen Thread. Although I often dye ribbon, it never occurred to me to dye my linen thread until I saw it in a Stampin’ Up!® catalogue recently.
I simply laid the thread on top of my Moody Mauve ink pad, held it down with a Stampin’ Up!® Blending Brush and gently dragged it through. I stress it has to be done gently, as I fear the thread could cut through the foam of your Stampin’ Up!® ink pad like a wire through cheese.
I hope you like the distressed/vintage Grassy Grove cards I have shared here and are inspired to try your own vintage techniques, or even remaking one of your old cards in new colours and stamps.
