Garden Meadow card in a box

Stampin Up UK Garden Meadow card idea

It’s nearly November which means it’s almost time for a new release of Online Exclusives from Stampin’ Up!®

For me, the stand-out products from the 7th November release are all in the Meandering Meadows Suite Collection. It’s rare that I order a whole Stampin’ Up!® Suite but I couldn’t resist this one.

The Meandering Meadows bundle features the gorgeous Garden Meadow stamp set and coordinating dies, which are perfect for gardeners.

I used this bundle to make a very special birthday card for my Mum, who turned 90 at the weekend.

Mum has never really been into papercrafting until a few years ago when I started holding monthly Stampin’ Up!® sessions for her local WI group. She initially went along "to make up the numbers" but was soon hooked.

Here she is at a recent session. She said exactly what I expected when she opened this card: “Can we make this at the WI?” Er, no, sorry! I don’t think our sessions are long enough!

When I saw the Garden Meadow stamp set, I knew the perfect special birthday card would be the card in a box. This is a simple box made from half a sheet of your usual cardstock. If you use A4, as I do, then you score at 5cm, 10cm, 15cm and 20cm to make the initial "tube", then score along the other direction to suit.

Inside you add a bracing piece to use to attach your vertical elements, which are mostly attached to some strips of clear Stampin’ Up!® Window Sheet.

This is not a tutorial post though – I’m sorry, I don’t have time to write and photograph one of those but if you search "card in a box" you'll find plenty of other people have already done so.

I decorated the box using Meandering Meadows Designer Series Paper from the Meandering Meadows Suite. This is STUNNING paper which features many floral scenes. I love them as they are reminiscent of old-fashioned jigsaw puzzles.

I used one of the floral scenes to decorate the sides of the box, and some pieces cut from sky design from the reverse to decorate the horizontal flaps.

All the pretty elements from the Garden Meadow stamp set are perfect for popping out of this box. I stamped and die-cut the wheelbarrow, various flowers, birds and wellies and attached them to their strips of Window Sheet.

They are all coloured using Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers for that guaranteed vibrancy.
I drew on my existing stash to make this a special birthday card. I used Alphabet A La Mode dies to die-cut “90” from Fresh Freesia cardstock, and mounted this onto a scalloped circle die-cut using All That Dies. This is another piece of Meandering Meadows Designer Series Paper which I mounted onto a piece of White Cardstock. Unfortunately, this made it a little heavy and it kept flopping over on its Window Sheet strip, so I added a cocktail stick to help it stay upright.

I added a cocktail stick to the greeting, too, which is stamped with the Let’s Go Shopping stamp set and die-cut with All That Dies. All products are by Stampin’ Up!®.

I still had some pieces left over so I stuck the watering can and flowers to the front flap. Finally, I used some of the brighter green Designer Series Paper and die-cut this grassy hillock to add some dimension to the front of the box.

It all folds flat to fit in a standard envelope. The key here is to keep flattening it and laying it on top of the envelope as you add your pieces, so you can check they will fit inside.

Here are some colour combination images for you to add to your Pinterest boards for future projects:
