Five card ideas for using your Stampin’ Up!® In Color™ scraps

 

Do you save your card, paper and ribbon scraps? I do because, as a Stampin’ Up!® demonstrator, I create quite a few – and they’re a really useful crafting resource. I continuously strive to reduce waste in my crafting, both for environmental reasons and to show people how they can save money.

 

These five projects all show you how you can put your Stampin’ Up!® scraps to good use, while making fab cards which don’t cost the earth – in both senses of the word.

Flowers or peaches? Versatile projects with the You’re a Peach Suite

 

It’s a sign of my age that while making these projects I was humming Peaches by The Stranglers and not the entirely different song of the same name by Justin Bieber. (In fact, I'm only aware of the latter because I Googled the former to check I had my facts straight.)

We had a peachy old time at my Crafty Friday class last week, once again held over Zoom. Some of my customers had expressed doubts about Stampin’ Up!'s You're a Peach Suite and Designer Series Paper but I pointed out that only four of the designs actually feature peaches, so they were won over. 

 

And it was with this in mind that I decided to show different versions of the same two cards, using peaches and flowers cut out of the Designer Series Paper to provide options.

 

 

Then on the day itself, while they were busy fussy-cutting their images, I decided to stamp mine using the Sweet As a Peach stamp set, cutting them out using the Peach Dies. 

 

I ended up with three sets of cards, showing the versatility of this fabulous Suite. They show just how different the same design can look if you change the Designer Series Paper.

 

 

 

I love these Genial Gems from the Hand-Penned Suite and they go well with other suites, too. For instance, the Pale Papaya gems are perfect for this peachy project. The Mint Macaron is pale enough to work ok but why compromise when the solution is staring you in the face? 

 

I coloured the Mint Macaron gems with a Dark Old Olive Stampin’ Blend marker and achieved perfect coordination. I tried the Light but it wasn’t as effective. If you have Stampin’ Blends (alcohol markers not water-based), you can always use them to match your embellishments to your projects perfectly. 

 

 

Here are the floral cards – without the cheesy peachy sentiment, you’d never know that these came from the You’re a Peach Suite. I’ve fussy-cut all those flowers out of the Designer Series Paper; I will be so glad to get back to in-person classes where we can ditch the fussy cutting!

 

 

These cards use exactly the same pack of paper but I’ve chosen to cut out peach images instead. They’re much easier to cut out than the flowers!

 

These cards were made using the Sweet As a Peach bundle (stamps and Peach dies) to create the images; this makes it even easier, and I love the shades of Pale Papaya and Calypso Coral on the stamped peaches. 

 

The stamps are cleverly designed to give you different shades, with pale/white patches to give a more realistic image. To add even more shading to your peaches, ink first in Pale Papaya, then before stamping, add some Calypso Coral ink around the edges using a Sponge Dauber. 

 

As for the fancy fold, it’s a double Z-fold and far easier to make than it looks. Basically you just repeat the fold of the outer card and stick it on the inside in the same formation. That’s a rubbish description, so feel free to download the class instructions from here.

Celebrating Pale Papaya with Hand-Penned Petals

I enjoyed a wonderful crafting treat at the weekend; an actual real live in-person event! This was my first in-person event since March 2020 and it was so wonderful to get people back together. 

 

Although we are all now fully vaccinated, to keep us all safe, I held two sessions in the garden and. I had borrowed a very large gazebo but thankfully we didn’t need to put it up (it’s very heavy!) as the sun shone brightly all day.

 

It was ostensibly a catalogue launch party but there wasn’t a lot of crafting – just one demo and one Make & Take – because I knew everyone would want to chat properly for the first time in ages.

 

 

This was the Make & Take card, which used the beautiful Hand-Penned Petals stamp set and the co-ordinating Hand Penned Memories & More Cards & Envelopes. These are gorgeous and a great way to give your card a lift without having to cut into your Designer Series Paper. 

 

But cut into the Hand Penned DSP we did, just for this little strip at the bottom of the Stitched So Sweetly die-cut shape. The image is stamped in Mint Macaron, Pale Papaya and Calypso Coral. The envelope actually uses Cinnamon Cider, but I found that a little dark.

During the week I have been playing a lot with Hand-Penned Petals and making lots of projects using Pale Papaya, which is a really lovely new In Color™ for 2021-2023. 

 

For this card I’ve used a Pale Papaya base and two designs of the Hand-Penned Designer Series Paper. I was playing around with some spritzing for this card – spritzing the stamp before stamping onto the paper. Unfortunately, I forgot to use Stazon ink so there is some smudging on the top right flower. It’s a fun technique though and one worth revisiting with this set as I think I could get some better results. 

The sentiment is stamped onto a die-cut shape created with Tasteful Labels. This is one of my most-used die sets, but I believe it will soon be equalled if not overtaken by Stitched So Sweetly. Either would make a really useful addition to your craft stash.

This bag was kinda thrown together with some leftovers. The main image is stamped in Polished Pink, Soft Succulent and Pale Papaya – all new In Colors™ for 2021-2023 – while the little flowers behind are stamped in Soft Succulent and Blushing Bride. The die-cut is Mint Macaron; what I love about Soft Succulent is that it is a darker shade of Mint Macaron so they coordinate beautifully.

These new Ombre Gift Bags are lovely and come in a mixed pack of our five new In Colors™– I’ve used Pale Papaya here with a strip of Polished Pink Open Weave Ribbon.

This card uses a large piece of Designer Series Paper to cover the whole card front – it’s my new favourite thing to do! I love how it gives a seamless look to your projects.

For the main image, I’ve stamped the same flower cluster as above along the bottom edge, turning it slightly each time so it doesn’t look like a uniform row. Then I’ve just stamped on top as before, this time using Pale Papaya, Soft Succulent and Blushing Bride. 

 

The greeting is popped up onto a Stitched So Sweetly die-cut, stamped lightly with some of the tiny flower heads in Blushing Bride. 

I hope you like my Hand-Penned Petals projects. They are a bit of a departure for me, as I don’t usually gravitate towards floral images and pale colours. But it’s good to climb out of your comfort zone now and again to see where it takes you.

Sneak peek: Hand-Penned Petals with Stampin’ Up!®'s new 2021-23 In Colors

My Stampin’ Up!® pre-order goodies finally arrived... just before I went away for the week, so I have hardly had any chance to play with them but I did crack open the new In Colors and the Hand-Penned Petals stamp set to make these five simple cards.

Hand-Penned Petals is a lovely two-step stamp set. A note for my regular ladies here: the solid images are not supposed to fit the outlines perfectly. I repeat: they are NOT supposed to fit perfectly! I know this will freak some of you out, but trust me, they are supposed to look like that. It’s artistic, dontcha know?

 

I stamped each outline image and the greeting in Memento Tuxedo Black, using the Stamparatus for speed and precision. I used the Stamparatus again for the flowers, but switched to a block to add the leaves because you use the same leaf stamp three times.

The large leaf stamp is not stamped the same way round each time. Simply turn it around to fit the image in the best way and remember: it’s not supposed to fit perfectly!

 

Polished Pink

This card showcases Polished Pink, which is going to be the hardest new colour for me to love as I'm not a pink person at all. But I know lots of people are so it's going to be popular, I'm sure!

 

It’s quite close to Magenta Madness, but a little softer so, in my view, that makes it easier on the eye. The ribbon co-ordinates perfectly with Magenta Madness, too. 

 

The leaves on this first card, and most of the cards here, are stamped in Soft Succulent...

 

 

Soft Succulent

This is LOVELY. It’s like the big brother of Mint Macaron which means the ribbon co-ordinates perfectly with Mint Macaron, too. Soft and gentle but with a bit more bite. 

 

 I’ve stamped the flowers on this second card in Fresh Freesia... 

Fresh Freesia

You’ll love this because it’s like nothing we have already, at least not for years. It’s reminiscent of the old colour Orchid Opulence from times past but softer and gentler. Even if it doesn’t float your boat on its own, stick it with Blackberry Bliss and it will definitely capture your heart. 

 

 

Pale Papaya

This is very subtle, a little like Grapefruit Grove from a few years ago but again, gentler. 

 

 
Soft and gentle is the theme of most of this collection, until we come to...

Evening Evergreen

This is by far my favourite. It's so deep and rich and lovely. I always love the greens, as some of you know, but this one surprises me as it's almost bottle green which used to made me shudder as it was the colour of my school uniform! It's a darker shade of Shaded Spruce, so they will work well together.
