Tailored Tag Punch and True Gentleman Paper - Masculine Workshop

Today I am showcasing the projects we made at my last Hygge Night, which was a Masculine Workshop.

I know many people struggle with masculine projects so I try to do at least one event on this theme each year, usually in time for Father’s Day.

We used the True Gentleman Designer Series Paper and the co-ordinating Tailored Tag Punch, combining them with other stamp sets, including Birthday Wishes For You, which you can see here...

... and Guy Greetings which you can see below on this joy-fold card. The nice thing about Guy Greetings is that it has all the men in your life covered, so those who don’t need a Father’s Day card could easily switch this to make another birthday card.

The Tailored Tag punch is pretty versatile; we sliced it in half and inverted the shapes to create a funky bow tie for this box...

This is one of the silver gable boxes from the Spring/Summer catalogue, carefully dismantled and turned inside out!

And for another Tailored Tag punch trick, how about this?

Pop of Paradise - a dapper flamingo

Is it possible to make a masculine card using the fabulously frivolous Pop of Paradise? And is it possible to make a masculine card using a colour called Flirty Flamingo? Well I’ll let you decide, but I am toying with the idea of sending this card to a man.

I don’t know why but flamingoes and top hats and monocles seem to go together. Am I missing something? But when I saw the flamingo, I instantly wanted to dress him up like a dapper gent.  Once I’d done that, with one of the hats from Guy Greetings and swirl of a Project Life pen, it seemed there was little else to be done, so I framed the image in black, mounted it on a card and left it at that. What do you think?

Masculine Projects for Father's Day

Saturday was my Masculine Workshop, so that the ladies could be prepared for Father’s Day in good time. There was also the option to use different greetings for various male relatives, if they wished.

These were the three projects for the afternoon. I roped in my friend Kelly to creating these projects for me as I’ve been so busy with work lately – and didn’t she do a great job?

The chocolate slider is quite a - okay, a very - complicated project, taken from a tutorial by German demonstrator Alexandra Grape. I’ve made lots of these before but still struggled on the day! You pull the ribbon to the right, and the greeting pops out at the left – genius!

Because this was such a time-consuming project, we kept the other two really simple. This wine tag is really easy – just a simple score line and a punched hole and you are halfway there.

The Open Sea card is really fun. It looks pretty unassuming from the outside...

But I particularly love the inside of the card, with its pop-out Chalk Lines waves and bobbing ship (well, it doesn’t really bob, but it looks like it does) as the front layer of waves are popped out on window sheets, concertina-style.

The projects also showcase lots of retiring products, including the Banner Punch, Bird Builder Punch, Going Places DSP, The Open Sea, Chalk Lines, map embossing folder, corrugated paper, black satin ribbon, circle and oval framelits, decorative label punch, mini brads, word window punch… not to mention the inks and cardstock in Lost Lagoon, Delightful Dijon and Mossy Meadow. Phew!

Some of them are carrying over to the new catalogue, though, including the lovely In The Meadow and really useful Guy Greetings, as well as the Scallop Tag Topper Punch.

I’m not going to do a recipe as it will take ages and this post is long enough already! Plus, many of the items will be sold out by now. Anyway, I think it’s now time we started looking forward, not back – it’s new catalogue time in just a few days!

Vintage Leaves with Going Places DSP

I made some retirement predictions when making these cards and I’m glad to say I wasn’t 100% correct. I knew that Timeless Textures was sticking around, as Stampin’ Up!® had already tipped us off about that one, but I feared the Vintage Leaves and dies would retire; happily they are sticking around for another year at least.  I expected the Antique Brads to retire and, sadly, they are not only retiring but sold out in Europe.

I expected the Going Places DSP to retire as the whole DSP range is invariably replaced every year. But I also thought Guy Greetings could go as it has been around a while – but I’m glad it’s staying as it’s such a useful set.

So, two out of four isn’t too bad!

The card on the left was the Make & Take at a recent party. We stamped Delightful Dijon onto Hello Honey cardstock (still available as of last night!) and cut it out using the leaf dies. The Going Places paper was cut into strips and arranged into panels , which we topped with a simple banner.

I also showed the card on the right, which is a slightly ‘stepped up’ version; this features some minimal distressing using the Timeless Textures stamp set, plus some linen thread and the lovely Antique Brad.

Both were sort-of CASEd from this project by Mary Deatherage

Masculine card with Guy Greetings and Adventure Bound DSP

It was my Awkward Cards workshop at the weekend. What are “awkward cards?” I hear you mutter. You know, the sort of cards you really don’t want to make because they don’t come easily. At the event we made eight cards; two masculine, two sympathy, two get well and two for teenagers. All, I think you’ll agree, “awkward cards”.

Here’s one of the masculine cards. It uses the fabulous Guy Greetings stamp set (which you’ll be pleased to hear, IS carrying over to the Big Book), along with the gorgeous Adventure Bound DSP stack. Get that while you can, because it’s only available until 2nd June.

It’s a Z-fold card, which is one of the easiest ways to make your card look a little out of the ordinary. Just score down the centre of the front and fold it back on itself.

Masculine birthday card with Guy Greetings

From the complicated back to the simple, with a really easy masculine birthday card, using various sheets from the Adventure Bound DSP stack. This is a really useful paper stack to get as it’s full of fairly neutral colours and patterns, as well as the wilder designs such as wood panelling and logs.

I had planned to show you a lovely Easter basket by now but it just hasn’t happened. It’s half made at least...
