One of my craft pledges for 2024 is to keep things simple. It’s not always panning out that way but today’s projects are pretty clean-looking at least.
I’ve used the Sale-a-Bration stamp set from Stampin’ Up!® called Jungle Pals, which is free with a £45 order during January and February. I didn’t like it to begin with, but the sloths drew me in and I soon fell in love with the other Jungle Pals, too.
There’s a set of coordinating Jungle Pals dies available, too, free with a spend of £90 but I figured I probably have enough dies that would do a similar job. Now that Sale-a-Bration is only two months long, I realise it could be a challenge for a customer to earn both the stamps and the dies. Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators have it easier as we get a pre-order month where we can earn Sale-a-Bration freebies, effectively extending the promotion to three months.
So instead of the Jungle Pals dies, I rooted through my existing Stampin’ Up!® stash and dug out my Dainty Delight dies. The the long curved leafy sprig is perfect for the sloths to hang from. I die-cut it twice from Parakeet Party cardstock and added some Shaded Spruce ink using a Blending Brush.
The sloths are stamped in Memento Black, fussy cut (although, as I say, Jungle Pals Dies are also available) and coloured in using a light Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blend.
I’ve mounted the leaves and sloths onto a panel of white cardstock which I blended with some blue ink. I keep one Blending Brush just for blues and never wash it, so I just used whatever was on it. Starry Sky, probably.
By sticking largely to black and white for my cards, I had the freedom to colour my images how I wished without concerning myself with a colour combination. It also meant I didn’t have to keep running to and from the craft room to find matching cardstock.
The greeting comes from the Stampin’ Up!® stamp set called Hooray for Surprises which was already out on my desk from an earlier craft session.
By now completely sucked in by the Jungle Pals stamp set, I stamped out the whole set and coloured them in.
Next up was this tiger card. The tiger is stamped in Memento Black again – you must always use a water-based ink with alcohol markers – and coloured using Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blends, with a little pink (can’t remember which) for the nose.
I wanted him in long grass so used my Garden Meadow dies, cutting out grass in Parakeet Party and Granny Apple Green cardstock. With some careful cutting, you can actually use both pieces of cardstock: the die-cut shape and the piece left behind.
The greeting again comes from Hooray for Surprises, and the panel is mounted onto Basic Black cardstock, this time with some must-have black and white gingham ribbon tied around. I don’t often say you must have an item but this ribbon is definitely up there as it goes with so much.
My third card was an attempt to use up my remaining stamped images.
This time I made the greeting the focal point, using “sending sunshine and rainbows” from the Kindest Expressions Stampin’ Up!® stamp set. I stamped this in black in the centre of my panel, then coloured the bottom area roughly using a Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blend.
The crocodile is coloured using various green markers, including Old Olive and Granny Apple Green, fussy-cut out and popped up on top using Dimensionals.
The toucan is coloured in Smoky Slate, Daffodil Delight and Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blends and cut out to sit on top of the words.
Inside you’ll find the remaining Jungle Pal; the lemur. I could hardly leave him out and by now I had run out of time so couldn’t make another card. Wish I’d squeeze out a little notecard though!
