What do jellyfish have to do with 2024? Everything, it seems.
It’s no secret that you a a good trend will transcend the worlds of fashion, home décor, packaging and beyond. The features and designs you see on clothing in 2024 will pop up on cushions, wallpapers, stationery and yes, in the world of papercrafts.
I’ve been researching the hot trends for the year and a theme that kept popping up was jellyfish. Yes, jellyfish.
This should not have surprised me as much as it did because the Coach & Horses in Horsley, had a strong jellyfish vibe in its Christmas décor last month. Surely no accident; the pub is part-owned by an interior designer.
There’s already a jellyfish hairstyle, which apparently dates back to autumn 2022. Just shows how out of touch I am with the world of fashion. Jellyfish lamps are a big thing, too – who knew? You’ll be seeing jellyfish everywhere this year as part of a wider marine theme… so if you want to stay up-to-date with your crafting, you’ll definitely want to invest in the new stamp set, Submarine Life, which you’ll find in on page 52 of the January-April Stampin’ Up!® Mini Catalogue.
There’s your cute jellyfish, along with a host of other sea creatures.
Ocean life doesn’t float your boat? (See what I did there?) No matter: you can hop on board to any number of trends in 2024, including “rustic chic with a cowboy edge”, according to Good Homes Magazine. Yes, this sounds very specific but it doesn’t have to be.
Think earthy colours, natural textures and leather. For this, look no further than page 41 of the January-April Stampin’ Up!® Mini Catalogue for some gorgeous faux leather trim to add that rustic edge to your projects.
This new Stampin’ Up!® suite is very on trend colour-wise, too. Neutrals and sepia tones are hot colour trend for 2024, as we say goodbye to greys (hurray!) and welcome back warmer beige and clay tones, according to just about everyone in the worlds of fashion and interior design.
Make sure you stock up on Crumb Cake, Pecan Pie and Copper Clay as you’ll be turning to these time and time again.
Candy cane stripes are predicted to be a key feature of
wallpaper this year. I hesitated to mention these as they are a staple
design in Stampin’ Up!® catalogues. You cannot go wrong with stripes
because they will coordinate with everything. Stripes and spots? Stripes
and florals? Stripes and more stripes? Yes, they all work well.
You’ll find stripes in candy colours in the new Lighter Than Air suite starting on page 33 of the January-April Stampin’ Up!® Mini Catalogue. What a fun suite this is. Check out how the designers have not just used the striped Designer Series Paper on the card on the right, but made their own stripes using narrow strips of cardstock for the card on the left.
Another returning trend – if it ever went away – is tropical jungle. You’ll see this encompassing fun childlike images such as the ones in the Jungle Pals Sale-A-Bration stamp set to more realistic botanical-style prints.
Keying into the botanical jungle theme is a strong trend towards dark moody backgrounds such as those in Forever Love Designer Series Paper in the January-April Mini Catalogue. I love darker backgrounds and am always drawn to Designer Series Papers that go down this route. You won’t see so many of these in the January-April Mini as it leans towards lighter spring tones, but a new Annual Catalogue will be launched in just a few months so who knows what that will hold?
For now, there’s Meandering Meadows which has been used to great effect here on page 29 of the January-April Stampin’ Up!® Mini Catalogue.
Five more trends to watch:
- Herringbone
- Vintage vibes, particularly 70s
- Pop art florals
- Texture
- Checkerboard
Five more colour trends to watch:
- Blues (don’t they always say that?)
- Peach Fuzz/soft blush pink - Pantone and Dulux have both gone down this route for their colour of the year
- Brown as a statement colour
- Green – Old Olive, Shaded Spruce and that old favourite, Garden Green.
- Warm reds, heading towards the rich neutrals. Think Cherry Cobbler combined with Cajun Craze.
I must end with my usual disclaimer: there’s no point in hopping on a trend you don’t like, so do take all of this with a large pinch of salt. If you like to dabble, by all means craft outside of your comfort zone but if any of these trends make you shudder, you are definitely allowed to ignore them.
