Christmas card ideas with Christmas Classics and Merry Melody

 

It’s October, which means Christmas cardmaking has begun in earnest. A local Women’s Institute group were the first to get a full-on Christmas card class, and we made two cards using the Christmas Classics stamp set from the Stampin’ Up!® September-December Mini Catalogue, and Merry Melody 3D Embossing Folder, from the current Stampin Up!® annual catalogue. 

 

 

First up – because I always start with the most complicated project – was this traditional red and green card, featuring sprigs of holly and other Christmas foliage.

 

I made two versions of this Christmas Classics project – a stepped-up version and a slightly simpler one to make in the class. 

 

 

For both projects, I used a Wild Wheat card base to pick up the Distressed Gold greeting panel. This panel is die-cut using Christmas Classics dies. These are amazing as they cut beautiful borders of festive foliage, as you can see here. This set of Stampin’ Up!® dies also includes plain labels which coordinate perfectly, just as you’d expect. So we cut a plain panel in Very Vanilla, to mount on top of the Distressed Gold foliage.

It would look great as it is but a hint of green really adds to the traditional Christmas vibe, I think, so we added some sprigs of foliage in Old Olive and Shaded Spruce. 

 

 

This is a great Stampin’ Up!® Christmas colour combination of Wild Wheat, Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive and Shaded Spruce.

For the stepped-up Christmas Classics card, I added some distressing into the mix, swiping over the embossed layer with a sponge and some Wild Wheat ink, to "age" the paper. I also went around this layer and the Cherry Cobbler layer beneath it using the edge of my scissors, to rough it up.

 

 

The card layout is the same, although this time I added some extra foliage – more holly leaves and some pine sprigs , as well as some stamps and die-cut holly berries. 

 

 

 

All of these elements are die-cut using the Christmas Classics dies set, which goes with the stamp set of the same name. This is a great bundle which is well worth adding to your craft stash.

 

 

 

For the second Christmas Classics/Merry Melody card, I kept things more simple.

I love this retro colour combination of Lost Lagoon, Cherry Cobbler and Very Vanilla, so began with a Lost Lagoon card base. 

 

For the main focal point, I stamped onto a square die-cut shape created with Christmas Classics dies, which I mounted onto a square of Cherry Cobbler. To match the cut-off corners of the top layer, I trimmed the Cherry Cobbler cardstock with scissors.

I did the same for the Designer Series Paper layer, which is from One Horse Open Sleigh and coordinates perfectly.

The holly is stamped using the Christmas Classics bundle and coloured using Lost Lagoon and Cherry Cobbler ink pads with Blender Pens. Although there are dies for the holly and the berries, I stamped these together and fussy-cut them instead on this occasion. A piece of Lost Lagoon ribbon finishes of the project.
