Home for Christmas gift box

Yep, it’s me again and, as you may have guessed, I’m cramming… trying to get all my Christmassy posts done before The Big Day on Friday!

This one was hastily thrown together yesterday morning as we needed a nicely packaged gift in a hurry.  Talk about cheating! The gift tag was already made, from Monica’s retreat (they were supposed to be hanging ornaments, but I liked them better as gift tags) and the box was created with the Gift Box Punch Board.

To make this box, I used 12”x12” paper and the largest measurement on the board. However, after messing up my first effort, I realised that there is an error on the board - not sure if this is on everybody’s metric measurements but tells you to score the diagonal at XL when actually it should be L. If this means nothing to you, ignore it and just get on with your life. But if it rings any sort of a bell, please do check and let me know.

As the box contains a batch of Rocky Road, not noted for its lightweight nature, I strengthened the box inside with Real Red cardstock, adding a layer of chipboard underneath the bottom piece for extra rigidity.

To finish off, I really was running out of time – and festive supplies – so I simply tied a bow around the top.

Talking of The Big Day, guess who has their own show on Radio Derby on Christmas Day? Who else could it be? My Mum and her friend, Jean, have been given two whole hours to themselves – they’re even listed in the Christmas Radio Times! Mum’s being very cagey about the show’s content, and I honestly can’t imagine what to expect so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Home for Christmas bambi cards... in a hurry

When you need a batch of Christmas cards in a hurry, it does help to be a Stampin’ Up!® demonstrator with lots of leftover Make & Take kits. I always prepare too many Make & Takes for parties as you never know if extra people are going to turn up, and I can use the extras for other events or, in this case, for myself. And a pile of Pool Party card blanks was just the job for this quick project, which is very closely based on this beautiful album created by French demonstrator Hélène Legrand.

I love these little bambis, but wasn’t sure of the best way to use the Designer Series Paper effectively. Hélène’s idea to punch them out was perfect, as it allows the cuteness to stand out. The corrugated paper sets them off nicely; I don’t use this often enough and I love it. I ran out of wooden snowflakes while making these my cards, so switched to a punched star for the rest.

Mix It Up Monday: Happy Scenes

I know, I know, it’s barely Monday but there are a few hours of the day left! And, for my readers across The Pond, I’m still very much in time for Mix It Up Monday, in which I create a project using one of my colour combinations from my In Color Charts.

The stamp set is called Happy Scenes but the card is anything but. In fact, for a Christmas card, it’s a little gloomy. I don’t hate it but really don’t love it – it definitely needs something else but I couldn’t get to anything appropriate so I left it as it is. Plus, I’ve messed up a little as the DSP is actually Real Red, which I didn’t realise when I was making the card.

As delicious as this colour combination sounds, I found it quite a challenge; I really wanted to add a splash of green in there. Well you know me, can’t resist a bit of Cherry Cobbler and Old Olive at Christmas time!
