Pink Ribbonwalk - and a simple bookmark

A really simple project today as I’m still exhausted from the exertions of Saturday, when I and three of my team completed the 10-mile Pink Ribbonwalk at Chatsworth. 

We had a fabulous day, really enjoyed ourselves, although it was most definitely a challenge in parts. Miles seven to nine were the worst for me, as my poorly foot was really beginning to show itself. 

But it was wonderful to see so many people walking in pink, snaking their way through the grounds of Chatsworth. I’m not sure how many took part but we heard a rumour that it was more than 1,000!

It was my first time taking part in an event like this so I really wasn’t sure what to expect. Along the way, there were rest stops with loos, water and snacks such as fruit, cereal bars, crisps and, bizarrely, Haribos! 

My husband and son met us halfway to surprise the others with hot and cold drinks, cake, oranges and, best of all, chairs! This was very much appreciated; the pure joy of sitting in a chair! 

At the end, we all received a medal and a goodie bag, and were treated to a hot meal in the marquee. There were even free leg and foot massages on offer, but we decided that standing in the long queue would possibly negate any benefit! 

None of us was prepared to commit to next year while in such pain, but I’m pretty sure we’ll be doing it again; if not this walk, something similar. Huge thanks to everyone who has sponsored us so far.  I have pix of the event on my Just Giving page. And if that’s not a heavy hint, I don’t know what is!

Anyway, the project… it uses the retiring Happy Day stamp set, because, even though the day was bittersweet for many, remembering those they’d lost, or who are currently fighting breast cancer, the day was very much a happy one.

Painted effect and a sneak peek

I had fun making this card as I’ve been rediscovering some “messy” techniques lately. But before I go into detail, here are a couple of announcements:

Now today’s project and a (very tiny) sneak peek… 

The card is a CASE of a project made by Stampin’ Up!® CEO Shelli Gardner, although the bit that inspired me was just the envelope! Can’t imagine going to all this trouble for an envelope but I can imagine that the recipient would be delighted if you did. 

I began by inking the images as normal, then spritzing them with a fine mist of water before stamping. This gave it a watery, painted effect.

I “dirtied” it all up with a secret formula spray I found in my stash. Not that secret actually – I was experimenting a while ago and I believe it is a Vanilla Smooch Spritz spray mixed with a little Early Espresso reinker. It went everywhere, as you can see!

Happily, it turned out just as I wanted and it’s currently winging its way to a friend’s house for her birthday.

This project is a mix of retiring and incoming products. The Happy Day stamp set is on its merry way soon… I shall be sad to see that one go. Funnily enough it was a stamp set I didn’t particularly crave, but was given it free by Stampin’ Up!® (one of many demonstrator perks!) and grew to love it almost immediately. I love the clean font and simple messages. 

So what’s the new product? Have you guessed yet? Yes, it’s Lost Lagoon cardstock and ink. No, my pre-order hasn’t arrived just yet but we were given these products at the SU training session recently. LOVE this new colour!

Hello there!

Here’s another card using the oh-so-versatile Scalloped Tag Topper Punch. It’s a similar concept to this card but “faked” – in other words, the scalloped tag pieces are stuck on rather than forming part of the main card base. The Coastal Cabana tag is scored and adhered behind the Whisper White layer, while the Whisper White tag is simply popped up on Dimensionals. It would have looked nice scored and stuck behind the polka dot layer but you can’t turn back time, eh?

Simple smile

I made this really simple card last night. It didn’t go quite as I’d planned but, as they say, once it’s stuck, you’re out of luck! It uses some of my favourite products… the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set, the Fresh Prints DSP stack and those cute little wooden elements. And I love this colour combo, too - it’s Soft Sky and Real Red. It’s a combination which works well for many occasions, including Christmas!

No-cutting Sweet Sorbet cupcake bag

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers out there; hope you’re enjoying your day! I’m currently tucking into a slice of Malteser Tiffin, lovingly made by my daughter, while stroking a beautiful new Paperchase journal chosen by my son (I wonder if he had help from the daughter? It’s very tasteful!)

As time is rapidly running out for Sale-a-Bration, I wanted to show you the projects I demonstrated at Friday evening’s party. I wanted to show the ladies two products in particular; the versatile Cupcake Punch and the gorgeous Sweet Sorbet Designer Series Paper, which you can earn FREE with a £45 order until the end of Monday. 

I started by demoing this cute gift bag, which you make with a square of Designer Series Paper. There’s no cutting involved and it’s quite simple. The bag at the top of this post is made from a full sheet of 12”x12” DSP; it’s big enough to hold a small gift, such as a scarf, a notebook or a bag of chocolates. This one holds sweets and is made handbag-style with a ribbon handle.

Make it using 6”x6” DSP and you get a cute little bag which is just the right size to hold a stamp and some ribbon, which was handy as that’s exactly what I wanted to give to my hostess, Pat. 

I have one more to show you tomorrow; by happy accident, the bag is exactly the right size to hold our note cards.
