A rainbow of colourful Wildflower Designs cards

I cannot get enough of Stampin’ Up!®’s Wildflower Designs stamp set at the moment!

This gorgeous stamp set lends itself perfectly to Blending Brush and masking techniques, so I had another play session with Wildflower Designs to create a set of colourful cards.

This rainbow design was inspired by my love of colour and all the wonderful rainbows we see during June for Pride Month. Yes it’s July now but we can and should support our LGBTQIA+ friends all year round.

I began by masking off the white card to leave a horizontal strip. In the unmasked area I used a small Blending Brush to add various Stampin’ Up!® colours, working in rough rainbow order.

The Stampin’ Up!® ink pads I used were Melon Mambo, Poppy Parade, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lime Twist, Granny Apple Green and Summer Splash.

Before removing the masks, I stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black ink on top, using the two largest stamps from Wildflower Designs, stamped at random.

The Big Reveal is always the fun part! I carefully peeled away the masks to reveal the rainbow of wildflowers.

This layer is simply mounted onto Basic Black cardstock and Basic White card base. The finishing touches are a stamped greeting in Craft White on Basic Black cardstock, and some black embellishments, which you can create by using a Stampin’ Blend (or a black Sharpie) on top of any embellishments you have to hand.

Paint charts have been a big part of my life for the past few weeks so I think I was subconsciously inspired by those for this Wildflower Designs card.

I carefully measured and masked to create a row of mini squares, then coloured them with a Stampin’ Up!® Blending Brush and ink pad from left to right in Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lime Twist, Granny Apple Green, Old Olive and Mossy Meadow.

Picking several shades of one colour and working from lightest to darkest means you can use the same Blending Brush without having to wash it. Having said that, I rarely wash my Stampin’ Up!® Blending Brushes because they take so long to dry; instead I have a few packs and keep one for green, one for blue, one for pink etc.

Once I had added the colour, while the areas were still masked, I stamped the small dandelion-style flower in each coloured square, then once again removed the masks for the big reveal.

I love the way this turned out and didn’t want to detract from the squares too much so simply added a stamped greeting, a Mossy Meadow layer and then popped it all up on a Lemon Lime Twist card base.

These three notecards were the result of a more ambitious project which didn’t turn out as planned. But I always say there are no mistakes in stamping so I turned my one disappointing project into three fab ones!

For each of these I masked a border and blended in a different Stampin’ Up!® colour. This one is Lemon Lime Twist; The other two are Daffodil Delight and new In Color™ Summer Splash.

Here’s the Summer Splash version. I kept the mask in place while stamping flowers from Wildflower Designs in Memento Tuxedo Black. Then, feeling bold, I splashed some water on top, leaving it to dry to lift off some colour. You can see this quite clearly on the darker colour of Summer Splash.

The splashing on this one –  in Daffodil Delight – is more subtle, but it still adds interest to the background.

I trimmed all three stamped panels down to size and mounted them onto Basic Black cardstock. You can see some are a little wonky, but I don’t think it matters.

Again, not wanting to detract from the pretty panels, I simply mounted each one onto a Stampin’ Up!® Notecard and stamped a greeting in black in the bottom right corner.

I hope you like my masked Wildflower Designs cards. Which one is your favourite?
