Have you tried the Hooray for Surprises dies to add an extra fun element to your Stampin’ Up!® projects? They were the theme of my Spring Craft Day at the weekend.
Please bear with me here as I realise the Flight & Airy Designer Series Paper we used is no longer available, as it was a Sale-a-Bration item available free with a £45 Stampin’ Up!® order during January and February. I will show you most of the projects we made, and many can be adapted to use different Stampin’ Up!® Designer Series Paper.
At my all-day classes, guests are given a kit of Stampin’ Up!® supplies and a pack of tutorials. This allows them to work at their own pace and skip any projects they don’t like the look of.
For this event, I knew some people would relish the challenge of making interactive cards, while others were just there for a natter and a bit of light crafting. So there were LOTS of projects for them to choose from.
Here are some of them...
This was a relatively quick and easy card using the Hooray for Surprises bundle from Stampin’ Up!®. Yes, there’s Flight & Airy Designer Series Paper as the background, but any subtle design would work well.
The heart is stamped in Boho Blue and layered onto some Crumb Cake cardstock embossed using the Timber 3D embossing folder. Misty Moonlight provides the darker layer and it’s finished off with some linen thread and embellishments.
Sticking with the Boho Blue theme, this birthday card is a lot of fun and totally inspired by fellow Stampin’ Up!® demonstrator Julie Sutcliffe at The Paper Haven. The candles are stamped freehand in Misty Moonlight and Crushed Curry, and layered onto a flag cut freehand from Misty Moonlight cardstock.
This project looked really bare until I stamped the flowers on the Flight & Airy Designer Series Paper in Boho Blue!
This simple birthday card has a cake stamped in Fresh Freesia and die-cut with the Hooray for Surprises dies. The candle is again stamped in Boho Blue with a Crushed Curry flame.
The Boho Blue strip is die-cut using Everyday Details Dies from the January-April Stampin’ Up!® Mini Catalogue. Definitely well worth adding to your Stampin’ Up!® collection!
Now for an interactive card. This floral card has a surprise on the front; if you pull the tab, the flowers come away to reveal a second greeting.
TIP: If you – or someone else – accidentally pulls the tab before sending the card, there IS a way you can put things right. Simply use some Tombow Multi-purpose adhesive; add a very tiny amount to the back of the tabbed piece and spread it around very thinly. Don’t use your finger if you have a latex allergy! Allow it to dry fully to turn into a temporary adhesive, then pop the tab back into its slot.
The secret greeting on the front is great fun but I realise that many people don’t want to destroy their cards in this way, so I did make some others with the interactive elements on the inside. Keep reading to see these.
The rest of the projects do all have birds on them, cut out from the Flight & Airy Designer Series Paper, but I’m going to show you anyway as you may have some left over, or have something similar in your Stampin’ Up!® stash.
First up is this fun bird-themed birthday card, with a column of bird seed. I made this using a Lip Balm/Money Holder dome filled with sunflower seeds. Thank you to Mary Ellen Stites for the idea! I tried sweets but they just looked wrong with the birds.
The birds are cut out of the Designer Series Paper and popped up on a frame made from white cardstock. When you open the card, you can unzip behind the dome and release the seeds.
There is no way this would fit in an envelope so I decorated a bag for this to go in. My sample was Fresh Freesia – an old bag from my stash – while I waited for the snazzy new In Color bags to arrive at my house.
Here’s one of the ladies’ projects from the day – made using a Boho Blue bag as planned.
This cute square card has its interactive element inside. From the outside it’s just a pretty card featuring a bird and a few leaves, die-cut in white cardstock using Hooray for Surprises dies.
Inside there’s another bird sitting on a tabbed piece which you can pull to reveal a greeting.
I liked this one so much I made it again for Mother’s Day.
Finally two cards with no interactive elements, just pretty birds and pretty Flight & Airy Designer Series Paper. This one has a circle cut out of the front and a fussy-cut bird on a floral branch.
And this one uses the cut-out circle, flipped over, as the main element on a really simple card. It’s made a little more interesting by embossing the white panel using the Timber 3D embossing folder.
