This Adorable Owls stamp set from Stampin’ Up!® is a real hoot! It’s one of the Sale-a-Bration stamp sets available when you spend £45 in the UK on Stampin’ Up!® supplies during January or February.
I predict that the set will be the most popular Sale-a-Bration stamp set of 2023 – you read it here first (or perhaps not).
There are three different owls in the set and some words which may or may not be too cheesy for you. If they are, then cut them up! I do this all the time to make my stamps more versatile. You can always reassemble them on the clear block.
For all of these projects I used the Rays of Light background stamp, which is a fairly recent addition to my Stampin’ Up!® stash.
Using a background stamp is really easy if you follow my method. It will save you money, too, as you don’t even need a clear block.
Simply leave the stamp in its case, ink it up, apply your cardstock to the stamp, then smooth it out with a piece of scrap paper on top to avoid getting ink on your hands. I lay the stamp in its case on my grid paper and fold this over.
I have two versions of this fun birthday owl card as I made it at my Twixmas Party, which I hold each year for customers (on Zoom these days). I demoed the card and they voted for the same owl that I’d used for my sample, the birthday owl from the Adorable Owls Sale-a-Bration stamp set.
They had a choice of three In Colors and they chose Tahitian Tide, which I was quite pleased about as I already had a Starry Sky version.
I stamped the Rays of Light on cardstock of the same colour, then flicked Craft White ink on top. I love this effect as it can look like rain, snow or stars, or simply add a little interest.
I coloured the owl in using Stampin’ Blends then popped it up on Stampin’ Dimensionals on top of a swirl of Baker’s Twine. A bit of masking meant I could stamp “HOOT HOOT” without the words “you’re so cute” – I must get round to cutting that up!
For a variation on the theme, I used the Versamark resist technique, which is a great alternative to heat embossing. I don’t like to use heat embossing as the powder can get everywhere and ultimately, it’s a microplastic so harmful to the environment if it ends up going down the drain.
This method gives you the look without the guilt. Simply stamp with your Versamark pad and allow to dry thoroughly, then apply colour using a blending brush. The Versamark will resist the ink, so you can create amazing effects.
This version is quite simple, with a flying owl and another “HOOT HOOT”. This time I stamped the whole greeting and simply snipped off the words I didn’t need.
I used a blending brush and Pool Party ink for a bright sky, and Daffodil Delight ink for a sunny effect.
For this slightly stepped-up version, I created a Starry Sky background with white ink spatters, and introduced some clouds from the new Playing in the Rain stamp set. I have to confess I do love this!
