Stars Framelits teenage boy card

So… I definitely CASEd this from somewhere but I’ve been all over Pinterest and the entire internet, including my favourite blogs and can’t find it anywhere! If you recognise it, please let me know and I’ll give credit.

It’s the “teenage boy” card we made at my no-longer-recent Awkward Cards workshop and, although I acknowledge that a teenager boy isn’t going to appreciate any card unless it has money in it, it was quite fun to make.

The star was die-cut with Framelits, and then “hi” was cut from the centre using some Thinlits (yeah, yeah, I’ll look up the names of these products in a minute*). Underneath is a punched circle of retiring DSP with some retiring thick Baker’s Twine wrapped around it. I love the look of this technique but, for the life of me, I never seem to get it right. I think I’ve cracked it now though (AFTER I made this card, naturally) and it seems you make a loop of twine, then tape it down with some washi tape. Wish I’d thought of that.

The rest of the card is just a series of simple elements… the only thing was that I didn’t have any black Candy Dots, so I coloured some of my least favourites (*cough cough* the orange ones) using a black Sharpie.

There are lots of retiring products on this project, some of which have now sold out but can be substituted with current or new products. For instance, even if you don't want to get the bargain Label Card Thinlits (see below), the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits have a “for you” die which would be perfect in the centre of the star, and any brightly coloured DSP would work just as well under the vellum. You could substitute the Thick Baker's Twine with another colour - there are five new colours in the new catalogue - or simply Linen Thread.

*Label Card Thinlits - still in stock on Wednesday evening and down to £14.98!

Star Framelits card and #christhecatalogue

Am having an exhausting evening as Mr Winky has had some dental work done today and, because of the anaesthetic, he’s not allowed outside… supposedly for 2-3 days. I vetoed that immediately as I know what he’s like but the vet did say he couldn’t go out until tomorrow at least.

So this evening is an Ayckbourn-style farce of closing doors and running around to prevent him from escaping. “He may be a little drowsy”… I think not - he’s never been so lively! Mainly because he really needs a wee and won’t use the litter tray provided.

...

Anyway… after a short break to disinfect and mop the floor,  I’m back with a card from my now not-so-recent Awkward Cards Workshop. This was one of the cards we made for teenagers, using the Stars Framelits which, trust me, are not just for Christmas.

In other news, I spent Saturday in the company of 350 other demonstrators at the UK Regional training event in Telford. This was a great opportunity to see some of the products from the upcoming catalogue. There were some fabulous demonstration, lots of swapping (sadly, I didn’t have time to make any swaps, but that never seems to stop me coming home with some!) and I even won a Prize Patrol, which is virtually unheard of!

The catalogue itself was launched in spectacular style by our very own Chris from Demonstrator Support. Chris has been with SU ever since they launched in Europe in November 2007 and is the one we all turn to when we need help. So it’s no wonder he gets the biggest cheer of all when he turns up on the SU stage… and dressing him as a catalogue only served to make the cheers even louder.

He did, however confess that it was quite heavy, so I asked him to pose looking miserable and he said: “I’ll pretend that you’ve phoned me three times in a day with different problems.” Rude.

Curvy Keepsakes Box Christmas favours

Wouldn’t these make cute little favours for your Christmas table? You could even pack small gifts inside them and hang them from the Christmas tree.

I made these for my Virtual Hostess Club members, all in Kraft (which is my favourite) apart from the one for Grace as I know she’s not a fan of browns, so she received a special red one. The Stars Framelits are gorgeous, so useful for all kinds of occasions and perfect for Christmas. And the Alphabet Rotary Die makes gift tags so easy, as you can stamp any name you like.

Bright & Beautiful star aperture card

I’m almost out of Christmas projects to show you… and in my mind I’ve already moved on to spring because today, the UPS man is bringing me my Spring/Summer catalogue pre-order! It’s very exciting, I have some lovely new stamp sets coming, as well as some very exciting Designer Series Paper (with LOTS of potential), and some gorgeous embellishments. I’ve planned strategically to prepare some samples for my All-Day Craftathon, which is in February. I’d love to have this event full of eager crafters, and you can secure your place with just a £5 deposit! All the details are here and if you have any questions, just email me!

Meanwhile, here’s a Christmas project that was marvellous in my head, but actually quite difficult to execute. The key is NOT to look at the back of this card, LOL!

Regular Big Shot users will probably have worked out the problem by now. To create the aperture in the front of the this card, I had to wrap the card, inside out, around the cutting plate. The extra pressure created by the additional sheet of cardstock in the “sandwich” resulted in the star shape also being embedding into the back of the card, too. Still, it made positioning the stamped image very easy!

This stamped star has been made 3D simply by scoring from each point to the opposite side. Then you gently fold the stars along the score lines, alternating between mountain and valley folds, to create the lovely 3D effect. The hardest part is sticking it down, but I built up the centre with Stampin' Dimensionals and stuck the points down with Tombow.

I didn’t have my Itty Bitty Accents star punch with my when I made this, so borrowed a friend’s old-style star, but I’m listing the new one in the ingredients for ease.

You're a Star

Stars are a key trend this winter, so I thought I’d have some fun with the Star Framelits and make some thank you cards for my customers. The alphabet rotary stamp really came into its own here. It takes a little bit of getting used to but is so handy to have, as you can create any short phrase you like!
