Summer mist

I’m sure I’ve posted something very similar to this before so I apologise... but I’m still posting it! It’s for a workshop where the hostess wanted to see Watercolour Wonder™ crayons. And you can’t show these fabulous crayons without demonstrating the misting technique!

You simply colour the stamp with the crayons, spray lightly with water and then stamp. Click here for more details.

Soft summer blooms

Thank you to everyone who turned out for the Mini Catalogue launch/open night on Monday – it was very well-attended - I hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

This is what I demoed. It’s not a million miles away from a card I posted previously but I managed to get hold of my friend Alison’s Oval All set so used that with the much-in-demand oval punches.

I demoed the misting technique, which you can read about here, using Watercolour Wonder™ crayons. I then used the Stamp-a-ma-jig® to stamp the outline image over the top in Basic Grey.

The Oval All image is stamped in Basic Grey then the tiny butterfly is coloured in using a Certainly Celery marker.

What you probably can’t see is that I used textured cardstock for the card base. I did the demo twice, once with a Certainly Celery card and once with the Pretty in Pink card that you can see lying down.

Spring blossoms

This is more like it! I like this card much better than the last one, although I never could work out where to put the ribbon (everything was stuck down or I could have tied some around the So Saffron strip).

To create the image from two two-step stamps, I first coloured the solid image with Watercolour Wonder™ crayons then sprayed the stamp lightly with a water mister. Once it had dried, I stamped over the top (using a Stamp-a-ma-jig® for accuracy) with the outline stamp in Basic Gray.

Gentle blooms

Here’s a variation on this card, which I made for my workshop last week. I love the look of this Botanical Blooms stamp set and think stamping it in pink on white gives it an oriental feel.

I stamped the pink backgrounds to the flower stamp using the misting technique – I coloured the stamp using a Watercolour Wonder™ crayon, then gently misted it using a garden mister. This gives a watery effect which goes particularly well with this kind of stamping.

The white layer is stamped using Regal Rose ink, then blended using a blender pen on the inside of the ink pad lid.

Eagle-eyed stampers will notice that the row of pink on pink stamping at the bottom was an afterthought – yes I masked it but the different levels meant that my stamping didn’t quite go up to the edge.

Misting technique

It’s been a frantic few days but at last I have chance to post something. Although I should be preparing for a class I’m holding next weekend – I’m the world’s biggest procrastinator!

To make up for my laxness (laxity?), here’s a mega post – with three samples and lots of pix, which will probably take me ages to post and make me very irritable.

I’ve wanted to try this technique for ages – it’s Misting. The only thing that was holding me back was a lack of misting bottle – but I found one in the garden centre last weekend. No I didn’t want to use my Stampin’ Mist; that felt wasteful.

The technique is simple, although there are many variations of it. I tried Misting with Watercolour Wonder™ crayons. As I soon discovered that you can’ take photos of your own hands, I roped in a mini hand model!

1. Use the crayons directly on to the stamp. This way you can get different colours on different parts of the image.





2. Spray the stamp lightly with water. Then stamp.

Alternatively, spray the paper lightly with water then stamp.
You can also combine this technique with inking your stamp with ink pads or markers. You get more intense colours that way, if that’s what you want.





I tried several variations of this technique. The first four use Watercolour Wonder™ crayons:

1. Naturals Ivory cardstock, sprayed paper.










2. Naturals Ivory cardstock, sprayed stamp. These two were very similar, although a slightly wetter effect was achieved by spraying the stamp.








3. Whisper White cardstock, sprayed stamp. This creates a very washy effect as the cardstock is not absorbent.










4. Whisper White cardstock, sprayed paper. My least favourite as the cardstock doesn’t absorb the water and the cardstock had a speckled effect, although this did dry eventually.








5. For this one, I used ink on the stamp then sprayed it and stamped on Naturals Ivory cardstock. The colour is much more intense.









I have three samples to show you; the supplies are roughly the same for all of them, so only one recipe to avoid repetition:

Cardstock: Elegant Eggplant, Always Artichoke, Rose Red, Whisper White, Naturals Ivory
Ink: Elegant Eggplant, Always Artichoke
Accessories: ¼” Grosgrain Ribbon – Always Artichoke and Elegant Eggplant, 5/8” Grosgrain Ribbon – Old Olive, Rich Regals brads, 1 ¼” circle punch, Watercolour Wonder™ crayons – Rich Regals, misting bottle.
