Stamp Doctor - Four projects with Swirly Bird
Last Friday was my Stamp Doctor night, with a special clinic for Swirly Bird. This stamp set is so versatile that it can actually be quite daunting, so I came up with a set of projects to show off some of the fun things you can do with it. This was the first – everyone got to choose a piece of DSP from my retiring stash, then made an envelope with it, using the remaining pieces for their other three projects.
Well, those who stayed on track did. Some ladies went “off piste”, which is absolutely fine... the main thing is that they have fun and, as it is a Stamp Doctor clinic, that they go home feeling better!

Mix It Up Monday: Swirly Bird
It’s the final combination from the Dapper Denim In Color charts this week as I rapidly head towards the last few colour combinations for this round of Mix It Up Monday. Soon I will have a whole new set of charts to show you and I can start playing with the brand new colours.
For today’s post, I’ve made a project using the super-versatile Swirly Bird stamp set. This set will be the subject of my Stamp Doctor clinic this Friday, but this one of the projects that got away.
It uses three colours from the Subtles collection, which is not somewhere I tend to head too frequently! So it was quite a challenge but thankfully the Dapper Denim is there to hold everything together.

Swirly Bird meets Pêche Fraîche
Well, would you believe it? Pêche Fraîche makes another appearance on one of my projects. I think I’m getting used to it! The colour, that is, not the name. I’ll never get used to the name, so it will remain Pêche Fraîche for the foreseeable.
I made this at a friend’s crafty get-together recently and had fun creating the watercolour background. After wetting the paper, I swiped with the two ink colours (Pêche Fraîche and Watermelon Wonder), allowing them to blend in the middle. Once dry, I splashed a little water around, left it for a minute or two, then dabbed it off gently with tissue paper. I painted some circles in clear water, too, then did the same - this created the paler backgrounds behind some of the flowers.
When it had dried for the second time, I stamped on top with Swirly Bird and Watercolor Words, then finished off with some ribbon and just one Enamel Shape… in Pêche Fraîche of course.

Mix It Up Monday: Swirly Bird boats
I loved playing with Swirly Bird at our team meeting last weekend; this boat card keeps popping up on Pinterest so I apologise if I haven’t credited the original creator – please do let me know who it was! It was really fun to make (thanks, Jane, for the project!) and, while I kept closely to Jane’s card, I changed the colours so that I could use it for Mix It Up Monday using a combo from my latest set of In Color charts. So I switched up Jane’s red boats for cheery Pumpkin Pie and compromised with an orange sun, stamped off. Hope you like it!
I love the nautical look of this colour combination, and think it makes a change from red. I’m not normally a fan of oranges but really like it in this context, with the three different shades of blue.
As for the intruder on the photo above, I was rushing to take the picture as it was just beginning to rain. As you can see I was just quick enough before this happened...

Mix It Up Monday: Swirly Bird twisted easel
I’ve had a super busy crafty weekend. Friday morning was Crafty Friday, but more about that later in the week. Saturday afternoon was my Welcome Party for my new club members – a fun afternoon of crafting and chatting.
But in between, Saturday morning, was my team meeting. We were a very small group so we just played with new products and chatted, which was lovely. Turns out we’d all ordered the same stamp set – Blooms and Wishes – but that was just about the only common ground, apart from Swirly Bird, which most of us had already ordered, or planned to in the next few weeks. This is a really popular set, partly because it was in the pre-order for demonstrators and partly because it’s so versatile. I must admit I’d completely overlooked it until I got to have to play with it on Saturday morning and made this project. It’s a twisted easel (thanks, Janet, for the tutorial). I’ve never made one before but it s really simple, just a square card with a diagonal score line on the top flap.
I hope you love the colour combination as much as I do. It’s for Mix It Up Monday and is taken from my latest set of In Color charts. One of the ladies wasn’t happy about the addition of Mint Macaron, but I explained that rules are rules and if it’s in the combo, I have to use it. I think she was convinced when she saw the finished project; either that or she was too polite to say otherwise.
