Distressing mode continues

Internet's back and phone line fully restored, thanks to a handy man!  So here's a new project at last...

Can you tell I’m in distressing mode at the moment? And that I’m loving lots of neutrals with just a splash of red?

I was rooting around in the stamping cupboard and found my old rub-ons. I have no idea why I haven’t used them, because they’re very easy and give a beautiful, crisp finish. I wondered what they’d look like applied to Newsprint Designer Series Paper.

The answer is this. After applying the rub-on, I sponged some Soft Suede ink around the edges of the paper (this was before my Distressing Essentials kit arrived) and distressed the edges of the paper, as well as the Soft Suede and Early Espresso layers.

I applied some smaller rub-on flowers to the Crumb Cake card base and used the direct-to-paper method to add some Crumb Cake ink, too. There’s more direct-to-paper on the Cherry Cobbler strip at the bottom.

It was still lacking something so I added some more Newsprint, ribbon, a scalloped edged strip of Early Espresso and, finally, a greeting punched out with the Modern Label punch, overlaid on a slightly offset Modern Label in Cherry Cobbler. There’s a hole punched in both with the Crop-A-Dile™, so I could tie some taffeta ribbon through.

A stamp-free card

I am so sorry, I don't know where the week has gone! I hope you'll forgive me for not updating and here's a card for today...

I love small square cards, as you’ve probably noticed. This is my favourite size – 9cm square. You can make cards really quickly in this size and get three from a sheet of A4.

There is no stamping on this card at all! The flowers are rub-ons, which are easy and fun to use. I particularly love the white ones as it’s a look you can’t create with ink unless you want to emboss.

Fun with rub-ons

This is not a Real Red and Old Olive card, I promise you. If you look closely, there’s a hint of Bashful Blue on that second layer.

I was playing around with rub-ons for this card – they’re very fun to use and I love the look of stark white on a colour like Real Red.

Rub-ons!

This little book was a doddle to decorate. It came covered in mulberry paper – don’t ask me where I got it from because I’ve had it for years. Well, I can tell you – I bought it in Reams in Matlock but it was so long ago that it seems highly unlikely that they’ll still have them... I don't even know if the shop is still there. 

So clearly, I’ve been hoarding this book for a long time, waiting for a reason to do something with it.

The reason arrived in the form of rub-ons. I used to love rub-ons as a child – but in those days they usually featured Winnie the Pooh or animals. Rub-ons have grown up and are now funky embellishments for cards and scrapbook pages. I really like the look of white rub-ons on a photo in a scrapbook page.
