Stamping with the WI with Sheltering Tree

First of all, huge thanks to the kind ladies who sponsored me on my Pink Ribbonwalk, following my blog post yesterday! It’s very kind of you and I’m really grateful.

The day went well and, despite the early downpour, the rain cleared up to a fine drizzle. We were going fine until the eight-mile mark, when things started to hurt, but one of my team members met us with biscuits at nine miles, which was very kind of her, and after that there was only a mile to go, which was easy. My feet are sore now, though, but give me a week and I could probably do it again!

Meanwhile, back to stamping... a week or so ago I had the pleasure of crafting with Holbrook WI (for my international readers, this is the Women’s Institute). I was quite nervous but they were a fun and energetic bunch who made me feel very welcome.

Due to the size of the group, I planned my project for them very carefully, using ink pads that I had multiples of, and a stamp set which I knew I could borrow from friends; Sheltering Tree. I managed to create four work stations this way, with a stamp set and ink pads at each one. If some had Garden Green instead of Old Olive, nobody complained! I also used the old pencil rubber technique to create a dotty background, so that I could easily produce a pencil for each work station. The hearts were punched out for them ready as I only have one Hearts Border punch.

The Make & Take packs were stored in our Wood-Mount cases – one for each table – with a sample card safely stored in the front sleeve. I had this genius idea recently and wish I’d thought of it ages ago, as it makes finding the sample card easy, and keeps it clean, too!

This is the card we made; it was a steep learning curve as it took a little longer than anticipated but I’m sure others will agree that, whenever we Stampin’ Up!® demonstrators hold a workshop or party, we learn something from it to take to the next one.

Anyway, big thanks to the WI ladies for such a warm reception and I hope they enjoyed themselves.

Sheltering Tree get well card

UPDATE: Virtual Hostess Club is now full - hurrah!

Another “awkward card” from last weekend’s workshop. This time it’s a get well card but you don’t always want to put “get well soon”, especially if the prognosis is not good or unknown. So we went for a simple “thinking of you” and kept the colours pretty cheery.

The stamped bottom portion is done with the leaves from Sheltering Tree. Just keep stamping until the whole area is covered.

I’ll have some Sneak Peeks for you next week I hope, and news of my Catalogue Launch Party!

Sheltering Tree sympathy card

This project is at the other end of the stamping spectrum, using minimal products and keeping things very, very simple. Despite this, and despite CASEing the project (from Eva Bussom) it was the hardest card I have ever had to make. It’s a sympathy card for a friend across The Pond who has suffered the most unbearable loss.  My card is a measly offering in the circumstances but at least she will know I am thinking of her and her family.

Butterfly Mother’s Day card

A week ago, it was Mother’s Day here (or Mothering Sunday, if I don’t want to get told off!) My Mum loves butterflies, so I made her this card. I don’t have a Mother ing Sunday stamp but I thought this sentiment from Sheltering Tree was perfect.

My Mum is quite the phenomenon. A couple of years ago, at the age of 79, she completed a sky dive, because she didn’t want her grandchildren to remember as an old lady who knits (!) and lately she’s become something of a radio star. If you fancy a laugh, have a listen to this clip of her reviewing a certain popular film with her friend... I think we can safely say she won’t be remembered for her knitting!

All-Day Craftathon: Calendar Card Album

Photo: Victoria Wilcox

This was voted the favourite project at my All-Day Craftathon. But it was quite fiddly to make, especially with so many people and so many different coloured ink pads.

The project is a calendar card album. Inside the chipboard covers there are 12 paper bags, with a blank calendar on the front of each one, for each month of the year. Fill in the calendar with people’s birthdays, then pop a card into the bag so that you have one ready when the time comes.

It closes with a piece of baker’s twine wrapped around a circle on the back, so that the cards don’t fall out of the pockets.

The trees represent the four seasons of the year, which is why they use so many different inks. I used the new Chalk ink for the spring blossom, as this ink sits on top of the cardstock without soaking in and muddying the colours. I couldn’t stamp on white because the snow wouldn’t show up!
