In The Wild Suite - three very different looks

 

I have some more wild projects for you today, featuring one of my favourite suites in the Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalogue, In The Wild. I had a lovely afternoon playing with this Suite, using stamped images and those cut out from the Designer Series Paper. The result was three very different projects.

The first one is one for the avid crafters, with lots of products to create a time-heavy card. Fun to make and, I hope, fun to receive.

I cut the cats out from the In The Wild Designer Series Paper – the sitting tiger was done by hand, but there’s a die for the standing cat. But wait... the die is the wrong way round!

 

 

 

If your die fits but the image is reversed, simply hold up the paper to a window or other light source and tape the die in place using washi or masking tape.

 

The tigers are set against a Soft Succulent background which I have embossed using one of the Greenery Embossing Folders. I ran the cardstock through twice to get the foliage in different areas – if you look closely you’ll see a faint line from the edge of the embossing folder. But I work on the theory that if anyone looks that closely at a handmade card, they don’t deserve a card!

The tigers are framed by the very wonderful Diorama Dies. These are brilliant and, while they instantly conjure up seascapes, they provide an unusual frame for all kinds of images. There’s just a hint of Evening Evergreen showing to give it depth, then the top layer was created using the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper, a favourite of mine as it has lots of really useful neutral designs. Psst, it’s also 15% until 2nd August!

I’ve even used the smallest Diorama Die to create an unusual layer for the sentiment – you don’t just have to use the outer piece, the inners are useful, too. 

 

My second card is much simpler and showcases one of my favourite sheets of In The Wild Designer Series Paper (also 15% off until 2nd August!). I’ve used the Stitched Rectangle Dies to create a frame, although if you don’t have anything similar you could cut a Very Vanilla layer and lay it on top of the Designer Series Paper instead. 

 

The tiger is stamped in Crushed Curry and Cinnamon Cider; it’s very easy to line up. Then the foliage is stamped and/or die-cut from Soft Succulent and Evening Evergreen, two of my favourite new In Colors. 

 

 

Finally I wanted to try something very different and wondered if I could create a snow leopard using this amazing Wild Cats stamp set. For the body of the cat, I used Smoky Slate, but soon discovered that I would have to stamp off (onto scrap paper first) not once but twice to get the pale image I was looking for. On top of that I stamped in Gray Granite. 

 

I used the lovely Tasteful Label dies for my greeting, which I stamped using Biggest Wish.

The strips are created using the Animal Print embossing folder; I just ran it through once and sliced it into three. Alternatively, you could cut your strips then run them all through at the same time, as they fit in the embossing folder.

Totally wild about In The Wild Suite

When I first saw the In The Wild Suite, I just knew I’d struggle to resist it. But I wasn't sure it would have universal appeal and my job is, of course, to show you things that you will like too.

 

Naturally I caved in (it didn’t take long) and tentatively demoed a few products from the Suite at my Catalogue Launch Party the other weekend. Guess what? They were as wild about it as I am! It’s the colours... the designs... the everything, actually.

What’s more, everywhere I look at the moment, I see wild animal themes, in these colours, too. I’ve seen wallpaper and I swear a shop near me has a lampshade which is not dissimilar to the Just Jade cheetah paper. 

 

 

This is the card I demoed at the launch. It’s a simple pocket card made by attaching two card bases together then slicing off the diagonals to make pocket flaps. Not my idea, of course – I totally CASEd this from New Zealand demonstrator Jan Clothier. 

I’d been so busy in the run-up to my launch event that I hadn’t had chance to practise my demo, so this was my very first time stamping the leopard. I say this to illustrate just how easy it is to line up the head and the spots onto the body. 

 

Here’s what the card looks like ‘closed’. That clasp is a bit too fat to post as a standard letter but I was sending this card with a gift so the extra bulk didn’t matter in this instance. 

This is a simpler card, which is actually my go-to design of the moment after seeing it demonstrator by UK demonstrator Julie Kettlewell. The design works with any Designer Series Paper and I love it with these rich dark colours. 

 

Yes it’s quite cardstock-heavy but you could omit the bottom layer of Evening Evergreen and stick your largest DSP layer directly to the card front. 

You could even simplify it further to make something like this...

 

For this card, I’ve covered the whole of the card front, which is a favourite thing of mine at the moment. Then I’ve simply added some ribbon and a couple of labels, slicing the Crushed Curry one in half horizontally and spreading it out behind the white label to provide a border. 

Yes, the stripes are designed to fit both cats – the sitting one and the standing one. I didn’t know this until it was pointed out to me in a ‘behind the scenes’ presentation to Leaders (demonstrators who are Silver Elite and above). I love this –  so clever. And yes I’ve tested it and yes it works! Look out for more In The Wild projects here in the future.
