Mixed Media Project Life pansy plaque

This is a product-heavy creation, but I really enjoyed creating it, sitting in my own little world, stamping away. The beauty of mixed media projects like this is that it’s very difficult to go wrong. If you do something you don’t like, you just cover it up with something else!

Here’s how I created this project:

  1. The MDF plaque had been painted with Annie Sloan chalk paint - you can just see glimpses of this through the yellow at the top.
  2. If I remember correctly, I may have painted some white acrylic over the top and then, while it was still wet, painted it with reinkers. I found that the water lifted the white paint off in certain places, so went with the flow and allowed this to become part of the project.
  3. Once the background was fully dry, I stamped over it with Cherry Cobbler ink using bubble wrap as my stamp. I love this effect.
  4. Next I stamped in black with various Project Life stamp sets. I chose happy words, like “Saturday” and “summer”, as well as elements such as brackets, dots and arrows.
  5. On top of this, I stencilled with homemade texture paste through the chevron stencil from the Build a Banner Kit. I deliberately kept this rough and ready.
  6. I stamped the stems and leaves with the Build a Bouquet stamp set in Garden Green.
  7. I created the petals with the Pansy Punch, cutting each out one individually and piecing them together on the plaque. Same for the smaller flower, but using the Petite Petals punch.
  8. The centre of the flower was cut out from one I’d previously stamped onto Typeset DSP, and topped with a rhinestone.
  9. Finally, I gave the whole lot a coat of Mod Podge to seal it all in. This is completely optional.

Flower Shop - get the bundle while you can!

Happy Monday! It’s been a busy weekend with retiring product orders and my very exciting pre-order of new products from the upcoming catalogue. And yes, this time I remembered to order catalogues! Sometimes I get so excited about the fun stuff that I forget this crucial part of the order. I hope the UPS man is feeling strong when he delivers as it all!

I can’t wait to play with these new goodies and show them to you at my Catalogue Launch Party. I have some fun activities planned for this event, too, which I hope you’ll enjoy, as well as extra benefits which will last all year and which are exclusive to Launch Party attendees!

Some key things to remember today:

Christmas in June is now full and the order has placed. Really looking forward to this event!

Retiring products are selling out fast. I had to disappoint a few people yesterday so make sure you’re not next and get your order in ASAP! See this post for details.

Catalogue Launch Party registration is open – again, please book fast so that you don’t miss out on a place. You have about a week to register!

And now today’s project. It uses the Flower Shop bundle, which is retiring and causing a little confusion. But don’t worry, the stamps and the punch aren’t retiring individually, you just won’t be able to buy them together as a bundle and get 15% off. So the message is simple; if these are on your wishlist, buy now to save some cash!

Three-panel flower card with Scalloped Tag Topper Punch

Another fun project with the Scalloped Tag Topper punch, using my favourite stamp of the moment, Hardwood. We made this card at Crafty Friday last week, although I thought the woodgrain was a little harsh so we switched to Crumb Cake.

We started with a piece of 6” wide cardstock – the depth is entirely up to you. It’s scored at 2” intervals. If you carefully feed the cardstock into the punch, you can scallop the top edge even though it’s wider than 2” – this opens up a world of possibility for this punch!

It helps if you mark your punch somehow so that you can see where the channel lies. You can do this with a permanent pen, but I’ve used washi tape as it shows up better in the photo. Using the inside edge of the washi, you can now see exactly where to feed your cardstock.

This project could be adapted to make a great mini album – you could make it as long as you like. A 12” strip would give you six sections, but you could make more by joining your cardstock. Why not give it a try?
