Vintage distressing techniques with Inked & Tiled Stampin’ Up!® cards

Last week I showed you three Stampin’ Up!® projects I created using my September Mood Board for inspiration. Today I have three projects using the Inked & Tiled stamp set, taking inspiration from a colour combination.
Stampin Up Wild Wheat Moody Mauve colour combination

This is one of the colour combos which you can download FREE from my website. It uses the 2023-2025 In Color™ Wild Wheat, as well as gorgeous Blackberry Bliss, another 2023-2025 In Color™ Moody Mauve and an old favourite; Pool Party.

To make these Inked & Tiled projects I was experimenting with a few distressing/vintage techniques, ahead of my upcoming Crafty Friday class.

For this first card, I stamped the main panel using Moody Mauve, Pool Party and Wild Wheat, both stamping direct and stamping off onto scrap paper first.

Next I added some Wild Wheat colour to the bottom edge using a Blending Brush, before distressing the edges using a pair of scissors, curling the odd corner and adding some little nicks here and there.

Over this I flicked some clear water, which lifts the colour where it lands and creates and interesting effect.

The layer beneath this is Blackberry Bliss, which I ran under the tap to wet thoroughly before scrunching up into a tight ball and spreading out again. It was a hot day when I made this card so I left this in the sun to dry.

Beneath that layer is a piece of Distressed Gold Speciality Paper with torn edges. The greeting is stamped onto a piece of Moody Mauve cardstock, also distressed around the edges and with some Wild Wheat ink blended onto it, and a hint of Distressed Gold Speciality Paper beneath.

I also added stamped directly onto the card base using Inked & Tiled images in Wild Wheat, and blended some ink around the edges using a Stampin’ Up!® Blending Brush.

My second card has less distressing on it but I used a bit of tearing, as I noticed this seems to have made a comeback in the Stampin' Up!® catalogue lately.

A fun technique I tried on the white layer was to take a piece of screwed up kitchen roll (kitchen paper in the US I think) and use this to pick up some Wild Wheat ink and dab onto the cardstock. It makes an interesting textured look which will vary according to the design of your kitchen roll.

The greeting is from the Stampin’ Up!® stamp set Go-To Greetings, punched out using the Stampin’ Up!® Best Label Punch which I purchased in error, thinking it was bigger. It's been an interesting challenge finding greetings to fit!

My final Inked & Tiled card was made using a rejected stamped piece from earlier in the day. I trimmed off the area I really didn’t like and added more flowers to it using Blackberry Bliss.

I went really heavy with the Blending Brush and Wild Wheat ink this time, leaving an area without ink at the top to create the impression of sunlight shining down. More flicks of water lifted the ink in places to create a dappled effect.

On the Wild Wheat card base, I stamped the long irregular lines repeatedly to create a background.

The main image square is layered onto Blackberry Bliss and then white cardstock to help it stand out from the background.

As this is a Stampin’ Up!® colour challenge, I hastily added a tiny hint of Pool Party behind the greeting layer to finish off.

I hope you like the Inked & Tiled cards I shared here to show some distressing and vintage techniques. The beauty of these techniques is that anything goes and you really can fish rejects out of the bin and give them new life.

Please feel free to take inspiration from the colour combination too, and if you share on social media, please tag me so I can see what you made.
