When I saw the Bird’s Eye View stamp set in the new Stampin’ Up!® Annual
Catalogue, I knew I wouldn’t be able to resist it for long. It’s such a
fun and versatile stamp set. Today I want to show you four different cards (ok, two aren’t so different from each other) using this fabulous set.
I began by CASEing (Copy and Share Everything) one of the projects in the catalogue, specifically this one in the centre. This is a great way to start when your mojo isn’t playing ball. I love all the fun birds sitting on the branch, framed by the Countryside Corners octagonal frame.
This is the original version from the Stampin’ Up!® catalogue, using Gray Granite Designer Series Paper from the Neutrals pack. The birds on this project are stamped in black Stazon onto watercolour paper and watercoloured using ink from ink pad lids.
My version of this Bird’s Eye View card uses Pebbled Path Designer Series Paper, which is quite a bit darker than Gray Granite – but that’s not the reason I chose it. No, the real reason is that this is the colour I had available to me. I’m a firm believer in using what you have; if you wait until you have the exact same supplies, this delays the creative process and can be frustrating.
For my version, I stamped the birds in Memento Black – which is water-based; essential when colouring with alcohol markers – and coloured the images using Stampin’ Blends, again working with the colours I have, which in this case are Daffodil Delight, Balmy Blue, Calypso Coral, Granny Apple Green and Gray Granite.
The birds, branch and leaves are fussy-cut using scissors as there are no dies to match this Stampin’ Up!® set.
As well as changing the colours slightly from the original Stampin’ Up!® version of this card, I added a little extra detail on the octagonal border, using my Countryside Corners stamp set (which is one large stamp) to add a stitched effect.
This is, I’ll admit, a high-maintenance card, so if you fancy making something a lot simpler, take a look at these cards, which I made to inspire my Colour Club customers.
These are monochromatic cards which customers can copy using their new Colour Club supplies in whichever colour they choose when they register.
The first card is a fancy fold of sorts with a trimmed front panel and three square images of birds overlapping the front edge.
This Boho Blue version was my first attempt at this card, and I felt the squares were a little large.
I also felt I’d embossed a little too much of the inside panel. Less really is more in this case.
For my second version, in Pecan Pie, I trimmed off a 4cm strip from the card front and used this to create three 4cm square mats for three 3.6cm square images. I stamped the birds at an angle so it looks like they are peeping into the frame.
The Pecan Pie ribbon is thicker and bulkier than the Boho Blue, so I left off the greeting. It also makes the card more versatile and I can use it for any occasion.
The second design for my Colour Club customers is this bookworm bird card. I love the addition of the glasses and the books; I can definitely see me using this combination of stamps over again.
The white panel is die-cut using Radiating Stitches Dies, which are an online exclusive and definitely worth seeking out. If you’re a local customer, I can order them for you too – you don’t have to buy them online.
I love this Designer Series Paper; it’s called Glorious Gingham and features the two gingham designs you see here, in Pecan Pie (as shown), Berry Burst, Blueberry Bushel, Pretty Peacock and Lemon Lime Twist. It’s a great pack to get if you want to build up supplies of some of the new and returning Stampin’ Up!® colours, and my Colour Club customers will definitely be seeing more of it.
So, let me tell you a little more about the Colour Club. For just £20 you can choose any colour from the current Stampin’ Up!® collection and will receive an ink pad, plus cardstock, a small amount of Designer Series Paper (surprise design, but featuring your colour), 1m of ribbon and any additional supplies needed to make the two projects of the month.
There’s no monthly commitment so you can spread the cost at your own pace. Crucially, YOU get to choose the colour each time.
It costs just £20 for one colour or £35 for two, including postage to anywhere in the UK.
The next Colour Club order is going in on 8th July 2023.
I hope you like my Bird’s Eye View cards and are tempted to add this fabulous Stampin’ Up!® stamp set to your collection. If you live in the UK or Ireland, I would love you to shop at my store (link below).
And remember, if you have a big wish list... please get in touch and I will
help you get more for your money and unlock discounts all year round.
