Fun card ideas using Tune In Stampin’ Up!® stamp set

Stampin Up Tune In retro TV card ideas

If you know me, you’ll know I love everything retro. Retro music, retro colours, retro homewares, retro Stampin’ Up!® designs. So the new Stampin’ Up!® set Tune In went straight to the top of my shopping list.

I love the retro TV image and the groovy stars and couldn’t wait to show off this fun stamp set at my Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalogue launch party at the weekend.

I made this fun card using a Summer Splash card base. This is one of the new Stampin’ Up!® In Colors™ and lends itself perfectly to retro colour combinations. For this card I began with one of my In Color™ colour combinations but tweaked it ever so slightly to use Basic Beige instead of Very Vanilla. This toned it down slightly to give it even more of a retro feel.

On this Basic Beige layer, I stamped the stars all over using Real Red, Summer Splash and Pumpkin Pie ink in a random pattern.

The television is stamped onto watercolour paper. I know I should have used Stazon but this stains photopolymer stamps so I decided to take the risky step of stamping in water-based Memento Ink and then colour using ink pads and water painters. I was very careful not to get too close to the edges to reactivate the black ink, and it paid off. I coloured the body of the TV in Summer Splash and the controls, legs and aerial in Gray Granite.

The inner outline of the TV screen was a bit too fine for my limited painting skills so I coloured this bit using a Blender Pen and Gray Granite ink.

I don’t have the coordinating Tune In dies – I am trying to keep things simple this year – so fussy cut the TV and aerial using my Stampin’ Snips.

The greeting comes from the same Tune In stamp set and is stamped with a single stamp, inked in two colours. I did this by masking off “Stay tuned” using some tape, then inking “for an important message” in Summer Splash. Then I removed the tape and inked up “Stay tuned” using a Real Red Stampin’ Write marker.

News Flash is simply stamped in black on Pumpkin Pie, then cut out to fit.

My second Tune In card again has a cut-out TV, but this time I have cut out the screen too. I did this by laying the Pecan Pie cardstock on a spongy surface and carving a slit in the centre using scissors. This enabled me to get in to cut out the screen.

Behind this I have added some strips of coloured cardstock, on top of which I stamped Happy Birthday.

I made two versions of this card – this second one is a simpler version with Happy Birthday stamped in red on white cardstock. This made it easier for customers to recreate at my Catalogue Launch Party at the weekend. To add interest to the TV screen, I stamped off in Gray Granite using the static stamp set.

I love the circles pattern on the Summer Splash Designer Series Paper. It reminds me of a 1970s carpet and works well for this card.

My final Tune In card was a CASE of a sample on page 67 of the Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalogue.

I used Lemon Lolly cardstock and stamped on top using Daffodil Delight ink. The television is again stamped on watercolour paper and coloured using water painters, this time using Pretty Peacock ink for the body of the TV.

There is lots of fun to be had with this Tune In Stampin’ Up!® stamp set. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but if you’re like me and prefer to add some variety to your crafting, I hope you give it a chance.

  1. Love your cards, Helen! A super fun collection with this fun retro stamp set. I own a similar and long retired stamp set called Stay Tuned, I need to dust it off and try making something like your cards. Thanks for sharing!
