Happy October! It’s a new month of new ideas from me, with the latest in my Mood Board series of Stampin’ Up!® projects. Please keep reading to see two projects I made using this board as my starting point.
I created this October Mood Board to inspire myself, my Stampin’ Up!® UK customers and team. But crafters everywhere can be inspired by the colours and/or images on the mood board – what will you make?
The colours on the mood board are Daffodil Delight, Shaded Spruce, Pretty Peacock, Calypso Coral and Real Red but, as always, use the nearest you have, or some, all or none of these colours. It really is just a jumping-off point.
Using two very different Stampin’ Up!® stamp sets – Christmas Classics and Inked & Tiled – I created two projects; one for Christmas and one for every day, to illustrate the broad range of projects which could be inspired by the mood board.
Inspired by the colours on the mood board and the centre bottom image, my first project is a Christmas card using the new Christmas Classics bundle, You’ll LOVE this bundle as the dies do a lot of the hard work for you.
For this card, I used Shaded Spruce cardstock as my base and my main layer. For the top layer, I used a Blending Brush with Pretty Peacock ink to create an ombre effect, then ran it through the Timeworn Type embossing folder to add some texture.
The white die-cut is exactly how it comes when you use the Christmas Classics dies, then the Distressed Gold leaves are created using a die from the same set, but I trimmed off various elements so I could just add a little hint of glitz behind the white.
It’s a classy card design which could be adapted to any Stampin’ Up!® colours you like – it would look great made using Real Red cardstock with Cherry Cobbler ink blended on top, too!
The second card is very different and uses the Inked & Tiled stamp set from Stampin’ Up!®
Taking inspiration from the use of Evening Evergreen and Calypso Coral, the dark green leaves on the coral background at the top right of the mood board, and the torn paper image in the bottom right corner, I created a torn paper background using strips of cardstock. It was fiddly but each strip yielded two torn edges I could use.
I stuck these down on a piece of scrap grid paper, to keep the weight and bulk down, then trimmed to size before mounting on a Calypso Coral card base.
The main Inked & Tiled images are stamped and stamped off (ie on scrap paper first) using Pretty Peacock ink on Calypso Coral card. I added some extra depth using Calypso Coral ink and a blending brush, graduating the colour from the bottom upwards.
The twine is standard Stampin’ Up!® Linen Thread - a craft room must-have - dyed Pretty Peacock by carefully holding it onto the ink pad, holding it in position with a blending brush and gently dragging it through. I must emphasise “carefully” and “gently” because you don't want your linen thread to cut through your foam ink pad like a cheese wire.
I hope my Christmas Classics and Inked & Tiled mood board projects have inspired you to create some of your own. I think they show that you can create very, very different projects from just one board – so the remaining possibilities are almost endless.
If you’re inspired to place a Stampin’ Up!® order, stop right there! I have a MUCH better idea. From today until the end of the month, you can get WAY more for your money by choosing one of TWO fabulous Starter Kit options:
