As soon as I saw the gorgeous In the Moment stamp set, I knew I wanted
to run a class with it. In fact, I am running not one but three different classes
with it, as I transition into my new system of showcasing a stamp set
each month.
My first event was a fun evening on Zoom combining
this fab set with the technique of paper piecing and beautiful
Expressions in Ink Designer Series Paper (which is retiring and I
believe has now sold out).
We made four beautiful cards, some of which were inspired by my talented friend Julie at The Paper Haven.
I love that this set has three images of the same size, which means you can swap them around to mix up your projects.
We began with this very simple fun fold card – I say ‘fun fold’ but it’s simply a standard card base with a strip cut off the front panel. I used Stitched So Sweetly Dies (retiring soon – please don’t miss these, they’re fab) to create a panel on the front and a smaller one inside.
The image is coloured using Stampin’ Blends and a little bit of paper piecing for the dress and hat. This is a great way of ‘colouring’ an image if you don’t have exactly the right coloured marker, or if you simply want to add some pattern and texture, like I did here. It allows me to pick up the colours and patterns from the paper behind, while creating a really natural look for the fabrics.
This card is really simple and allows the Designer Series Paper to do a lot of the heavy lifting. I mounted the paper onto Shaded Spruce (not just for Christmas!) and made the use of white space to really make the image pop. I coloured this lady using new Skin Tones markers, which mean we can create projects which represent a much wider range of people.
Again I have cut the had and dress from Designer Series Paper. To balance the orange of the hat, I have given her a glass of orange juice (or bucks fizz, if you like!).
This card features one of my favourite images. I would love to be snuggled up in bed with my dog reading a book. Sadly I don’t have a dog to do this with but I will one day!
This time I have pieced paper onto the duvet at the front and the pillows behind her head, and coloured in everything else with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers.
The image is stamped and cut out roughly using scissors. The bright pink ink picks up the pink from the paper. Finally, the gold elements from the Expressions in Ink Ephemera Pack pick up the gold in the Designer Series Paper. As I was talking about here and on my social media all last week, it’s all about balance!
Remember if you plan to colour with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers, you must use a water-based ink for stamping. I have used Memento Tuxedo Black here but any of our water-based Classic Stampin’ Pads will work too.
Finally, to mix things up a little, we made this square card which really shows off what I like to call the ‘best’ piece of Designer Series Paper in this pack.
The lady on the window sill is coloured with Stampin’ Blends; I use Balmy Blue Light and Dark for jeans. The paper piecing here is done on her top and the cushions.
I coloured lightly with light Pool Party in the corners of the window panes to help the window frames stand out, and the green of her mug is balanced by the piece of Just Jade ribbon.
For the greeting, I stamped the whole sentiment in Magenta Madness and cut out just the word ‘Relax’ before mounting it onto the image. The rest of the greeting is stamped onto the card using Sweet as a Peach (also retiring!).
I hope you like these In the Moment projects. If you are in the UK and would like to order any Stampin’ Up!® products, please
visit my store and, if you use the April 2022 host code YZH39MCB, I’ll send you a thank you gift in May.
