It’s Mix It Up Monday again and time for another colour combination from my In Color charts.
This one had me flummoxed for a few minutes, as I wasn’t sure that Lost Lagoon and Night of Navy should be mixed. But of course there are no rules… which is how we’ve ended up with a blue tree. Or is it merely a plant? Maybe it doesn’t matter.
I did decide to tone down the Lost Lagoon slightly and, to do this, I chose the faux watercolour technique. I inked up the block with Lost Lagoon and Delightful Dijon. Because the block is clear, you can get the two different inks really close together without contaminating your ink pad. As your next step is to spritz it with water, this is when the colour blending will occur.
Stamp the block directly onto the paper and wait while you see the cardstock absorb the colour. If you don’t wait, your results will be more blotchy, which is fine if that’s what you’re after. In fact, you can get lots of different results, simply by varying the amount of water. One of mine was so wet that I ended up with drips of colour on the rest of the card, too. I dismissed this but in the cold light of day I realise I could use it for another project some time.
You also get different results by varying the paper but, surprisingly, I found that watercolour paper doesn’t give such pleasing results as Whisper White.
When the ink is thoroughly dry (heat tool helps!) you can stamp on top, and I used Night of Navy to stamp this lovely tree/flower from the new set In The Meadow. This is my favourite set of the moment and I spent quite some time of Saturday making deer cards, which I can’t show you just yet.
The card still looked a little bare so I took another new stamp set, Timeless Textures, and had a little play. I stamped some bark texture in Lost Lagoon and Delightful Dijon (stamped off, to keep things subtle) and you can’t see in the photo but there are some Whisper White stamped dots at the bottom left and top right, too.
It’s been a pretty crafty weekend, starting with the first Crafty Friday in ages, where we made this project, and the ladies were excitedly awaiting the arrival of my latest Stampin’ Up!® parcel so they could see what I’d ordered. Unfortunately for them, it didn’t arrive until shortly after they’d left, so they’ll just have to wait and see at this Friday’s party!
