Tomorrow is the big day!

Well, it's getting closer! Tomorrow is the big day - you should be able to view the new catalogue online at the Stampin' Up! website! Demonstrators can't place orders until 11am so I'm not sure if the catalogue will be online before then or not. But be warned: there will be a huge amount of traffic, so don't be surprised if you can't get to see what you want to see until later on when things have calmed down a bit.

I wish I'd had more time for stamping this past month so I could have shown you more sneak peeks. But now I have to start stamping, in preparation for my Catalogue Launch Party on Saturday 10th October. I have demonstrations and Make & Takes to prepare, as well as competitions and prizes.

Here's another peek of the Good Friend stamp set, which I've used to make a funky flower. The spiky “petals” are made from the bird’s beak! Sometimes it’s fun to think out of the box when stamping – who knows what you can create with your stamps?

The greeting is partially inked with a marker, to omit the word “good”. Not that I differentiate between my friends when sending cards – but the larger greeting wouldn’t fit on this little square card.

Stamps: Good Friend
Cardstock: Old Olive, Rose Red, Whisper White, So Saffron
Ink: Rose Red, So Saffron, Old Olive
Accessories: Earth Elements buttons

Stepping it up with new catty products

This is an example of “stepping up” your cardmaking - that is, taking a simple idea and making it more detailed.

The little square Love Note I made in seconds (yes, you can make a card in seconds, although it does help to have everything you need in front of you) by stamping the flowers, then inking the word “friend” from the Good Friend set with a marker. I did pause to use the Stamp-a-ma-jig® so that I didn’t mess up at the last minute.

A nice, simple card, I thought. Then I thought how the same design could be used as the basis for a more elaborate card. So I stamped the same again (well, near enough) on a 3” square piece of Whisper White cardstock and layered it onto another card. Look! It even has glitter on the flowers!

And I love this colour combo now - Ruby Red, Taken with Teal and Whisper White!

Stamps: Good Friend
Cardstock: Ruby Red, Taken with Teal, Whisper White
Ink: Taken with Teal, Ruby Red
Accessories: Scallop Edge Punch, Paper Piercer, Stampin’ Glitter – Dazzling Diamonds, ¼” Grosgrain Ribbon - Whisper White

A simple idea...

Don’t you hate it when you see a really fabulous idea which completely blows you away... then you try it yourself and it looks like... well, it looks like this.

There’s a fabulous cardmaker out there in Blogland called Kristina Werner and every time she touches cardstock it turns to gold. So I had a go at making a card inspired by one of her designs, with very disappointing results.

But it uses retiring (and reduced!) Designer Series Paper so it’s now or never for the blog and here it is. It’s a very simple idea - but not stunning.

Anyway, moving on... it's my Moving Cards workshop tonight - if you've booked into this, see you later!

Cardstock: More Mustard
Paper: Haiku
Accessories: Die Cut Blooms, Earth Elements and naturals buttons, 5/8” Grosgrain Ribbon – Old Olive

Retro flowers again... another sneak peek

LOVE these retro flowers from Good Friend. They’re so fun.

This card is inspired by a sample from the Canadian catalogue so is, of course, something created during my cousin’s visit this summer. We used ordinary cotton thread in the centre of the buttons because I’d run out of linen thread and we simply couldn’t wait for the order to arrive!

Stamps: Good Friend
Cardstock: Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, Whisper White
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, Real Red
Accessories: 5/8” Grosgrain Ribbon – Real Red, 1 ¼” circle punch, Earth Elements buttons

A message for Mandy... and another sneak peek

First of all I have a message for Mandy, who left a comment a couple of days ago. I wanted to reply personally but don't have your email address.

Being a demonstrator is a huge amount of fun - it encourages you to stamp more and enables you to meet lots of like-minded people who don't look at you funny when you tell them your new dressing gown is Perfect Plum.

Some other good things about being a demonstrator are that it will subsidise your hobby, you get sneak previews of new products, you get a discount on everything and, best of all, you can work at it as much or as little as you like. You don't even have to do workshops if you don't want to! At the other end of the scale you can develop it into a successful business - and what could be better than earning money from something you love?

I can honestly say that I have never yet struggled to hit my sales targets and have lots of ideas to boost my business if I ever hit a slump. I'd be happy to welcome you into my team but if you already have a demonstrator, she's probably the best person to ask for advice on signing up.

If you'd like some more information, please email me or leave a comment with your email address and I'll get back to you!

And now on to today's project...

It's not such a good photo, this one. But forget the photo and concentrate on the stamp set – another sneak peek from the new catalogue!

It’s called Circle Circus and it’s fabulous. Lots (10!) of circles in varying sizes and varying designs. The floral one is actually much larger than shown here. Now if only we had a larger circle punch to fit it... hmm, I think I’ve said too much! *cough cough*

I love this set and was so overwhelmed with excitement when I received it that I really couldn’t think of anything more imaginative than this. Do you do that? Get brand new stamps and then find your mind has gone blank?

I’m sure I’ll come up with something much more exciting soon when I’ve had time to sit down for a proper play!

Stamps: Circle Circus
Cardstock: Tempting Turquoise, Whisper White
Ink: Tempting Turquoise, Pixie Pink, Orchid Opulence
Accessories: 1 ¼” circle punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals

A no-stamping card!

I’m trying to use up some of my Summer Picnic papers before they retire at the end of this month. I won’t get far using small scraps like this, will I?

The flower is built up from Die-Cut Blooms - which will be available in the new catalogue you’ll be pleased to know.

A very quick card to make!

Cardstock: Pumpkin Pie, Real Red
Paper: Summer Picnic
Accessories: Scallop Edge Punch, Die Cuts Blooms, Earth Elements Buttons

Kelly's winning origami box

The winners of the Summer Challenge have been announced by Stampin’ Up! and I am thrilled to say that one of the winners is one of “us”!

Kelly is one of the runners-up in the competition – a fantastic achievement because this was a national competition. Kelly is delighted to win £50 of stamp sets of her choice – so she’s waiting for the new catalogue to choose them. She’s also delighted that she took the time to enter because it was very much a last-minute thing, the night before she went on holiday.

Here is her amazing entry – which certainly doesn’t look like a last-minute project!

Stamps: Doodle That, Totally Tabs
Cardstock: Chocolate Chip, Regal Rose, Whisper White
Paper: Sweet Always
Ink: Chocolate Chip
Accessories: Pumpkin Pie 1/4" grosgrain ribbon, Felt Flowers, Silver brads, Large Oval Punch, Scallop Oval Punch, Round Tab Punch

This pheasant's so pleasant

Here’s that handsome pheasant I was telling you about. He comes with the Autumn Days stamp set, which will be available from 1st October.

I inked him up with markers so that I could get a multi-coloured image - Handsome Hunter on his head, with a Ruby Red beak, Close to Cocoa body with flecks of Creamy Caramel and a matching tail. I drew the grass freehand with the fine end of a Handsome Hunter marker.

It was my first time stamping the pheasant so I kept the card quite simple. Maybe when I’m feeling braver I’ll add some foliage around him!

Stamps: Autumn Days
Cardstock: Close to Cocoa, Handsome Hunter, Whisper White, Ruby Red
Paper: Spiced Cider
Accessories: Earth Elements markers, Round Tab Punch, Jumbo eyelets – pewter, 5/8” Grosgrain Ribbon - Chocolate Chip

Mini album/tag book

Okay, so who knows what this mini album is made from? I bet Kelly does because she’s the one who told me about the idea in the first place.

I’ll admit I was sceptical. And I probably won’t make another one. But I’ll admit that it turned out much better than I had anticipated.

So what’s it made out of?

Toilet roll tubes. Three of ’em.

You squash them flat and cover them with patterned paper, then bind them however you choose.

Tags go inside, which you can decorate with photos or messages. Mine are blank because I never get round to finishing this sort of thing!

Get in touch quickly if you want some of this lovely Summer Picnic paper, by the way. It’s on the Last Chance list and only available while stocks last – gone forever at the end of September.

Stamps: Summer Picnic, Wild About You
Cardstock: Real Red, Old Olive, Bashful Blue, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White
Paper: Summer Picnic
Ink: Old Olive, Bashful Blue, Pumpkin Pie
Accessories: Real Red and Old Olive markers, pale blue gingham, 5/8” Grosgrain Ribbon - Old Olive, ¼” Grosgrain Ribbon – Real Red and Pumpkin Pie, 1 ¼” circle punch, 1 3/8” circle punch, scallop circle punch, scallop edge punch, round tab punch, boho blossoms punch

Radical new colour combo - for me, anyway

Here’s another project made with Good Friend, from the new catty. It’s a bit plain because I made it in the summer when I didn’t know which greetings stamps would survive the Last Chance list. I was going to add something once I knew what was “safe” to use but I’ve kind of got used to the plain look now!

And what about the colour scheme? Radical for me, eh? I NEVER use these colours, so thought it was time to have a go. And you know what? I like them!

Stamps: Good Friend
Cardstock: Taken With Teal, Night of Navy, Whisper White
Ink: Taken with Teal, Night of Navy, Garden Green
Accessories: ¼” Grosgrain Ribbon - Whisper White

New catty sneak peek! Autumn Days

It's a really autumnal morning here. Summer seems to have left us for good now. So I thought it was time for this card. It’s inspired by a card made by a stamper called Shannon Bracken – I changed it around a bit of course; that happens even when I don’t try!

Do you recognise the stamp set? I hope not because it’s a brand new one from the new catalogue. It’s called Autumn Days and features these gorgeous foliage/wheat stamps as well as a handsome pheasant. Perfect for the colours from the Earth Elements family.

I stamped the images, then “stamped off” – that is I stamped again without reinking. This gives a paler shade and I really like the effect on this card. Then I sponged chalk around the edges of the cardstock with the matching Stampin’ Pastels, before inking the edges of the cardstock with Creamy Caramel. The vanilla tab received the same treatment. I inked around the edges of the main card base with Pumpkin Pie.

Stamps: Autumn Days, Basic Phrases
Cardstock: Pumpkin Pie, textured Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa, Very Vanilla
Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Creamy Caramel, Chocolate Chip
Accessories: Round Tab Punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Stampin’ Pastels, Kraft taffeta ribbon

This tin is a hoot

I can’t believe I haven’t posted this little tin, which I made last month. It’s a band-aid tin, which my Canadian cousin brought over for me to have a play with. It’s so cute I couldn’t resist decorating it straight away – and it was so quick to cover it with some scraps of Designer Series Paper. Maybe I should add some ribbons to the handle... or maybe not.

I think it would be perfect for an “office in a tin” – it’s hard to get items small enough for an Altoid tin but the mini calculator I bought months ago would fit easily in here with some mini pens, pencils, Post-it notes and paper clips.

Don’t forget this paper – Sweet Always – is only available now while stocks last.

Cardstock: Chocolate Chip, Whisper White

Ink: Chocolate Chip
Accessories: 1 ¼” circle punch, 1 3/8” circle punch, Scallop Circle Punch

You've got mail!

I have some mega catching up to do here on All Things Stampy. I’m trying to tidy up my stamping stuff and keep finding projects I haven’t posted on my blog! Inevitably, they use retiring products, so I want to show you them before the end of September, so you can order the Last Chance items if you want to.

Here’s one I (half)made ages ago... I just added the tag at the top to finish it off just as I was taking the photo!

It’s a mailbox but it’s a funny shape to cover so I didn’t find it easy. I have some of the “proper” shape now, so will probably get round to those one day... you know what it’s like.

This is covered with Summer Picnic paper and decorated with ribbons and whatnot. Don’t ask me where to buy these because I have never seen them in this country. My best advice is to find an American and Canadian friend and butter them up if you want some!

Stamps: Oval All
Cardstock: Whisper White, Certainly Celery
Paper: Summer Picnic
Ink: Real Red
Accessories: Striped Grosgrain Ribbon - Bashful Blue, 5/8” Grosgrain Ribbon – Real Red and Old Olive, Large Oval Punch, Scallop Oval Punch

Nearly forgot...

Oops, I nearly forgot to show you this project! It’s a gift voucher bought for one of my hostesses for her birthday by her wonderful husband. The reason I didn’t show you when I made it is because I didn’t want her to see it here on my blog before the actual day. The Close to Cocoa piece pulls out with the gift voucher on it. Actually, this is an unfinished version – I added an eyelet with some caramel gingham ribbon to make pulling out the certificate easier.

If you would like to purchase a gift certificate – or can persuade one of your friends or family to buy one for you – remember you can buy them to any value and they come with a card suitable for the occasion. They are valid for six months from the date of the occasion and can be spend on any products from any current UK catalogues.

Stamps: Seaside, Happy Everything
Cardstock: Creamy Caramel, Close to Cocoa, Whisper White
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Cameo Coral, Basic Gray, Close to Cocoa, Creamy Caramel
Accessories: Watercolour Wonder™ crayons – Earth Elements, blender pens, Stamp-a-ma-jig®, eyelets (not shown), caramel gingham ribbon (not shown), 1” circle punch.

Another new catty project

I LOVE these retro flowers from the Good Friend stamp set. I’ve stamped them here using the Soft Subtles colour family. Another rushed card – you can always tell when I’m in a hurry because I just stick to one colour family. All my scraps and ink pads are sorted into colour families, so I only have to pull out two boxes... well, three if you count my Whisper White/Very Vanilla box, too. Oh, four if you count the ribbon box... but you get the idea.

So I stamped these flowers at random in Almost Amethyst, Blush Blossom and Bashful Blue – not a colour scheme I’ve ever used before but it’s quite nice and gentle. The rest of the card is very simple and all you need is a recipe...

Stamps: Good Friend
Cardstock: Whisper White, Almost Amethyst, Blush Blossom, Bashful Blue
Ink: Almost Amethyst, Blush Blossom, Bashful Blue
Accessories: Striped Grosgrain Ribbon - Bashful Blue

If you’d like to see the brand new catalogue, please get in touch! You can get a free catalogue by hosting a workshop or by coming along to my Launch Party (£5 includes Make and Takes and a free catty). If you can’t make my Launch Party on 10th October, you can pay the £5 and get the catalogue and all the bits and pieces – plus a chance to win prizes!

Guess what I've got....?

Have you guessed? Have you? Have you not heard the "oohs" and "aahs" from where you are? Can you not hear my pen scratching wildly as I compile my wishlist?

Yes, I have my brand new Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalogue for 2009-2010. And no, I'm afraid I can't show it to you just yet as I only have my one demo copy. But I will soon, I promise!

And, just as - if not even more - exciting are the three brand new stamp sets I have to play with! And new papers, too! They're all gorgeous... but that's all I'll say for now.

Getting new stuff super-early is just one of the perks of being a demonstrator. Join now and you'll get a pack of current catalogues AND a pack of the new catalogues in your £139 Starter Kit. Join on 1st October and you'll just get the brand new catties... BUT you'll also six whole months to meet your first quarterly sales target.

Drop me an email if you want to find out more about this great opportunity - I'd love to welcome you to my team!

From the scraps box...

This card is made almost entirely out of cardstock found in my scraps box.

I was in a rush so just grabbed my Rich Regals scraps box and found a card base there and worked from there. I found a piece of Always Artichoke and rounded two corners. The Bravo Burgundy piece I punched along one edge.

The only piece I cut was the Whisper White, which I stamped on with the very funky flowers from the Good Friend stamp set, coming to a Stampin’ Up! catalogue near you on 1st October. You’ll love this set – it’s really good fun.

Don’t miss out on a brand new catalogue – please contact me as soon as possible to reserve your copy - better still, come along to my Launch Party on 10th October!

Stamps: Good Friend
Cardstock: Rose Red, Always Artichoke, Bravo Burgundy, Whisper White
Ink: Always Artichoke, Elegant Eggplant, Rose Red, So Saffron, Bravo Burgundy
Accessories: ¼” Grosgrain Ribbon - Elegant Eggplant

Last Chance List

It’s the time of year when Stampin’ Up! announces which stamps will be going... going... soon to be gone forever!

Yes, the Last Chance List has been announced. This is the list of stamps and accessories which will no longer be available in the next catalogue, which comes out on 1st October. Every year about a third of the stamps and accessories are retired to make way for new ones - in the same way that clothes shops clear out their racks to make space for the new season's fashions.

The great news is that Stampin' Up! gives us one month's notice so that we can order anything we simply must have before it's gone for good. And, for the first time ever, some of these stamps and accessories are discounted! Some of them are even a fabulous half price! This is a one-off - Stampin' Up! does not usually discount its retiring products, so hurry up and grab yourself a bargain!

The Last Chance List can be viewed by clicking here. Make sure you go through the list with a fine-toothed comb so that you don't miss out on anything that's on your wish list because as soon as we move into October, it will be too late.

And don’t delay with your orders as some products are available on a first come, first served basis. Remember: the deadline for ordering is 30th September so, if you're paying by cheque, I'll need it a few days before that so allow it to clear.

Watch the birdie

So... I think I’ve kept you waiting long enough. Who wants a new catalogue sneak peek?

Thought so. This set will be in our new catalogue, which comes out on 1st October. I’ve ordered lots so hopefully will have enough for everyone!

This is a really groovy set featuring this cute bird, which comes in several pieces - you stamp body, beak, legs – plus some fab retro flowers. Having seen a sneak peek of our catty cover a few weeks ago, I was lucky that my Canadian cousin had a couple of the sets we’re getting and brought them with her for us to play with.

So we made this between us while she was here. Just a basic gift box with some scalloped “grass” and a tag. More coming soon!

Stamps: Good Friend
Cardstock: More Mustard, Old Olive, So Saffron, Whisper White
Ink: Ruby Red, So Saffron, Always Artichoke
Accessories: Twill Tape, Large Tag Punch, Linen Thread, Stamp-a-ma-jig®

Top 10 must-have products

I’m always talking about my “must-have” Stampin’ Up!® products but I’ve never actually made a list. Naturally, there are hundreds of products that I think are fabulous... but, if I was being sensible, I’m sure I could narrow it down to just a few.

I’m not talking about a basic kit here – which would consist of stamps, ink, cardstock, adhesive, scissors and a paper cutter – but about my absolute most favouritest Stampin’ Up!® items which I really would rather not live without.

In no particular order:

Sticky Strip
A boring old tape, selected for a Top 10 must-have products list? But what a tape! We’ve all had boxes fall apart but this will not happen with this tape. It’s brutal – it even removes skin (don’t ask). It takes no prisoners – you can’t shift it once it’s stuck down, so no mistakes allowed. But your boxes won’t fall apart.

Paper Snips
Scissors? Can’t I come up with something more exciting than scissors? But have you actually tried the Paper Snips? They are really good, you know. I even know people who have more than one pair – one for ribbon and one for paper. I’m not that obsessed (yet) and use mine for both... but, for cardstock, only for precision cutting. They cut ribbon beautifully, too – no fraying!

Stamp-a-ma-jig®
Because you can waste a lot of cardstock by stamping images in the wrong place. The Stamp-a-ma-jig helps you position your image perfectly. It’s ideal for two-step stamping, for stamping titles on scrapbook pages, for positioning images on a small piece of cardstock, for lining up images. It’s also VERY easy to use – I’ve had a stamp positioner for years and never got on with it. The Stamp-a-ma-jig® changed all that.

Versamark ink pad
It’s called Versamark because it’s versatile and there is LOADS you can do with this ink pad. Its most straightforward use is as a watermark. Whatever colour cardstock you stamp it on (not white) you will get a slightly darker image; stamp it on pink and you’ll get dark pink... stamp it on blue and you’ll get dark blue etc. Stamp it on white and use it with Stampin’ Pastels and you have a real “wow” technique – it’s called Poppin’ Pastels because the colours really pop. You can also emboss with it, use it for emboss resist techniques, and much more. It’s safe for scrapbooking, too.

Whisper White cardstock
We all have white cardstock... but is it Stampin’ Up!’s Whisper White cardstock? Because, if it isn’t, the chances are you’re not getting the best out of your stamps and ink pads. It’s so smooth that your images will be really bright and clear. You won’t believe me until you’ve tried it... so just try it!

Lovely as a Tree stamp set
All of my selections so far have been very utilitarian because there’s no substitute for good quality basic tools. Here’s something a lot more attractive! I’ve waxed lyrical about this stamp set so many times you’re no doubt sick of reading it (or hearing it, if you’ve been to one of my events). But once more for those who weren’t paying attention: this is a fabulous set, very elegant, suitable for loads of occasions, including those tricky masculine birthdays and even trickier sympathy cards. You’ll want to use it all year round – including at Christmas. Stampin’ Up! demonstrators in America and Canada voted this their favourite set of all time... and they’ve had a LOT of stamp sets in the past 20 years.

Scallop Circle Punch
This is a really useful punch which looks great on almost every project. Pierce the scallops or dot them with a white gel pen to ring the changes. Punch twice to make a novel medallion. You will use it LOADS.

Large circle punch – preferably both of them
That’s the 1 ¼” and the 1 3/8” circle punches to be precise. These two punches (yes, I’ve cheated – my Top 10 is really a Top 11) go brilliantly together and even more brilliantly when used with the Scallop Circle Punch. They co-ordinate with many of the stamp sets in the current Idea Book and Catalogue - Season of Joy, Doodle That, Tart & Tangy and more. Oh and I nearly forgot to say that these punches are great quality and will not disappoint you like so many other punches do.

Watercolour Wonder™ crayons
These are a joy to use – they go on so smoothly and make colouring very, very easy. I’m not big on colouring, as you’ve probably noticed, but I love using these. You scribble with them onto your image then blend the colour using blender pens, an Aqua Painter™ or even simply a wet paintbrush. You can also use any of these directly onto the crayon to pick up intense colour for small, detailed areas. They come in four colour family packs plus a neutrals collection. Everyone who has used these at one of my parties, workshops or classes has fallen in love with them!

Old Olive
I couldn’t neglect that dear elderly lady, Old Olive, could I? What a wonderful colour! It’s a green you won’t find anywhere else and it goes so well with so many colours. The good news is that you can buy an ink pad, cardstock, Designer Series Paper, ribbon, die-cut flowers, felt flowers and buttons in this colour. The bad news is that you’re probably sick of seeing it on my blog as I use it all the time!

I think I AM Taken with Teal after all!

This is inspired by a card I saw in a Stampin’ Up! publication – it had different stamps but I changed it around to suit the supplies I had.

The circles were stamped with Fresh Cuts – I stamped a larger piece of cardstock with the large background stamp from the set and punched out the circles. I wasn’t sure about this colour scheme – I’m still learning to love Taken with Teal - but now I really like it. It does contain Old Olive, after all!
